This bit of news was completely out of left field and totally unexpected although when it came to anything involving the Monkees, including Nesmith, one learned to never say never. After Davy's death however, I expected that was it. No more Monkee reunions but I forgot: never say never. So now it will be Nesmith, Dolenz and Tork in a very limited tour, appearing with a backing back although there will be a segment of the concert where it will be just the three of them playing. Nesmith said they will perform some of Davy's songs to the best of their ability. Ironically, this current reunion was again Nesmith's idea although it came about when the three surviving Monkees attended a memorial for Davy and the three of them reconnected at the memorial. So, maybe the credit belongs to the late Mr. Jones?

I have friends who are big fans of The Monkees and have gone to see all of the reunion shows. Am wondering if Nesmith will perform "Different Drum." Some time back I posted this video of him performing the song solo (with a shout-out at the end to Linda).

I have friends who are big fans of The Monkees and have gone to see all of the reunion shows. Am wondering if Nesmith will perform "Different Drum." Some time back I posted this video of him performing the song solo (with a shout-out at the end to Linda). From what I've read, I think the concert setlist will be made up of songs that were on their albums in addition to the hits, which would mean "Different Drum" would not be part of the setlist. However, Nesmith did say that the setlist would include a lot more of his songs and Peter's songs although curiously, Peter never had that many songs that were released on the original albums. Three songs which he wrote, one song written by others on which he had the lead vocal and two other songs (also written by others) on which he had part of the lead vocals. It's possible Nesmith could've been referring to songs they wrote but never recorded with the Monkees but written around that time. In his solo concerts, Micky Dolenz's setlist sometimes included "DIfferent Drum," sometimes sung by him, other times featuring his sister Coco. So, if they wanted to include "Different Drum" in the current setlist, I think it would easily fit right in. It's surprising a properly recorded version of the song was never attempted by the Monkees in the 60s although in the wake of Linda's hit version, they may not have wanted to tried coming up with an arrangement that was as good or as better as Linda's. That was likely impossible, given the versions that followed. Linda's version always won out.
