"I do not think Oliver Stone gets JFK made today. Unless they can make JFK fly. If they can't make Malcolm X fly, with tights and a cape, it's not happening: - in New York Magazine.
I can't quarrel with the man..

Well, while I do think that Mr. Lee can at times be like hemorrhoids, i.e. a real pain in the a**, when he spouts off, I think he is dead-on about serious hard-edged films like JFK not being able to get a shot in this age of comic-book blockbusters and mindlessly ultra-violent action films. Practically anything, actual documentaries aside, that actually forces the moviegoer to think is relegated to the dustbin (IMHO).

Thankfully the Saturday Night Live cartoon "the ex-presidents" never made it to the big screen

I think people are looking more for escapism these days than wanting to know the truth which they cannot or will not handle well.

Certainly I can see none of the films that created such a stir in the late 1960s doing the same thing today. That was a time when people paid attention, and were actively engaged, as was Hollywood. A film like, say BONNIE AND CLYDE or THE WILD BUNCH, couldn't get green-lighted by a studio today if they didn't have a lot of gimmicks, and if they didn't have a story that didn't challenge the audience (IMHO).

Thankfully the Saturday Night Live cartoon "the ex-presidents" never made it to the big screen Now see I hink that's one of the few things spawned by SNL that might have actually made a good movie... Provided it remained animated of course!
