As with so many of my birthdays pretty much from my early 20s onward, this 47th will be a quiet and restrained one, with a dinner at a nearby restaurant. As a kid, it was usually fun to be the center of attention; nowadays it isn't such a big deal.
Here's one of the musical ways I will be celebrating at home tonight--the second movement (entitled "Meander") of Duke Ellington's 1970 ballet score "The River":

Happy birthday, Erik and may your year ahead be a great one for you and all the years to follow. The best is always yet to be. As Dianna mentioned, your birthday is almost the same day as my favorite singer as well, as is my cousin's birthday. I could never remember her birthday until I found out it's the same day as my favorite singer's birthday. Now, I will never forget her birthday.

Happy Birthday Erik. As usual I'm a day late (always a dollar short) Anyway hope you had a wonderful day and were surrounded ( almost but not quite to the point of annoyance) of loved ones. Take care-hoping for many more times I can wish you a happy belated birthday.

I typically have very quiet birthdays. As a kid, it was great to be the center of attention. Nowadays, however, I don't think it's necessary.
And anyway, like so many other birthdays of mine, this July 12th wasn't conducive here in Southern California to doing much of anything, what with it having been incredibly hot since the 4th. So I didn't lose either way, that's the way I look at it.

It's actually strange to be 49 years old (although it's not official until 8:25 AM, which was the exact moment of my birth on July 12, 1970).
And as is par for the course on nearly every birthday I have had, it is expected to reach the triple-digit mark here in Pasadena today.
