I will add more years and if anyone has more to add to that year have at it. Personal reviews, set lists, your own photos from that year, clippings or scrapbook articles....anything is appreciated.

I attended the October 24 concert in Ames, Iowa.
Linda was awesome. I remember her coming on stage with fishnet stockings with a red bow clipped to one thigh.
The Des Moines Register and Tribune wrote a glowing review of the show, something I kept for many years but no longer have.

I edited the list to include the April 11th Rutgers show. It was the first time I saw Linda. I also edited the Wikipedia page on the RAC or Louise Brown AC as it is known too. It had said that Linda played there for her "Living in the USA" tour with a very bad sore throat. I added she also played there for her "Mad Love" tour and the date. eddiejinfl

I have photos from Radio City but did not bring a Camera to Rutgers. Now that I think of it Linda also played Nassau Coliseum during that tour (no idea of the date but assume in close proximity to RCMH) as I recall have some very far away bad pictures form that show:) I have a good deal of pictures to scan and get posted here - I just need 5 extra hours in every day to do it:)

So I assume based on that it may have been April 13th or 14th. When I find exact info I will add it. Thanks for sharing as it makes searching for dates and info a lot easier. She also did her final show November 4th in El Paso/Juarez but I can't find a venue listed.

Ronstadt performed at Mississippi State University's Humphrey Coliseum in fall 1980. I was there, but don't have my ticket stub. I'm trying to pin down the date, but haven't had much luck searching the internet. The MSU 1981 yearbook, The Reveille, is available online, which includes a few details and photos from the concert. See: archive.org/details/reveille771981missLooking at the Mad Love Tour 2 dates above, the MSU concert most likely was in mid-October. Any one have a better idea of the actual date?

My guess would be Thursday, the 16th of October 1980 because she said in the yearbook she enjoyed her 2 day stay in the area so that would leave the 15th out (as it would be day 1) and the 17th and 18th would have been her 3rd and 4th days in Mississippi. She was elsewhere on the 14th and the 19th and the 15th and 16th appear open with the 16th being the second day. Just my guess.

That would make sense since she was traveling from a concert in Knoxville, Tenn., to one in Jackson, Miss., then on to Biloxi, Miss. Starkville/MSU would be in between Knoxville and Jackson. I will try to reach out to someone who may have been involved with Music Makers, the student organization that produced concerts on campus, at the time. Thanks for your help! P.S. Livingston Taylor opened for her at that MSU show.

This is one song Livingston was singing in concert at the time. Linda fans are well aware of that tune as it is on her eponymous album which I love so much. She sings it quite differently than Livingston and James versions. Hers is better in my opinion but like many things you often favor the first timers.

There were actually 3 go-'rounds of the Mad Love tour. It was really her biggest tour ever and Linda was at the height of her career. I saw the Joe Louis show in Detroit in April, 1980, followed by the Crysler Arena show at the University of Michigan in October of that year. She toured again with the same show in June or July of 1981 at Pine Knob Music Theater and Ski Resort in Clarkston, Michigan. I would wager to say that tour paid for not only her posh Pacific Heights crib but also her kids' college education!

I was at the Tucson AZ show early Nov, 1980. I was a freshman at U of A, she came out in a pretty short U of A football jersey and since Tucson is her hometown it was pretty loud. We had about 3rd row seats, Linda above us a couple of feet... glorious night.

I just found this forum. We just saw the Linda Ronstadt documentary today and we think that Glenn Frey and Don Henley were probably in her back up band when we saw her at the Rutger's Athletic Center Piscataway, NJ on April 11th.
We remember the smell of pot and the fact that the speakers were too big for the venue and we longed to just hear HER. We got our wish when she sang Desperado with just the keyboard player. What a memory.
Can anyone confirm when Glenn and Don left her to form the Eagles. We've seen them 4 times over the years. Brilliant!
I'll do some research on my own too.
Thanks.

The last time Eagles would have backed Linda would be the early 70s just before their first album was released in 1972. So most likely 1971 where they also helped out on Linda's eponymous album.

Welcome to the forum, Nancy Lee. The Rutgers concert was my first Linda concert when I was 17. We hung out all afternoon watching the buses and hoping to catch a glimpse of Linda. Place was mobbed. I remember we didn't have the greatest seats which were all the way back on the floor. What a show. I remember they had a sign out front that Nicolette would not be in this show. I think I remember it correctly. eddiejinfl

Welcome to the forum, Al. Just had to look up opening act for Rutgers. It was Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar. There was a sign that said Nicolette Larson would not be appearing tonight. I know I thought they gave notice as Larson sang backup on "I Can't Let Go, etc. and had appeared in Linda's ensemble for other recent concerts at the time. eddiejinnj

I remember Linda did not sing "Girls Talk" on the first leg of the tour in April 1980, however she did sing it at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Michigan October of 1980. Perhaps that's because Rosemary Butler was her backup singer this time and Rosemary already knew the song since she was on the recording. The following summer (even though Rosemary was still the backup singer), Linda swapped "Girls Talk" for "That'll Be The Day." I would have preferred "Girls Talk" but that's just me even though Waddy's or Andrew's guitar licks on that song are simply staggering. Linda was wearing a gold short-sleeve blouse, nickers and ankle boots at Pine Knob Music Theater that summer. Having seen Linda MANY times in concert, I could see at this point she was getting bored with the hits and something inevitably had to change. Broadway certainly honed her chops and although "Get Closer" was a decent record, I felt she was just trying to get one last lick at rock and roll to appease her record company before she approached the American Songbook which was clearly her muse at that point.

Great song!!! I can't recall if she sang "Girl's Talk" when I saw her at Rutgers in April 1980. If you would have asked me prior to reading she may not have, I would say "I'm sure she did as I recall she did the whole album." I guess I could look up setlist for the concert. eddiejinnj
