I was at the concert at Rochester's War Memorial 8/16/77. I also have been trying to find a video of the Linda and Nicolette duet, and also, I don't recall the specific song they sang. My memory tells me it was a faster, more upbeat song than "You're Running Wild". However, I'm getting older, and the memory ain't what it used to be. I sure do remember those two extremely talented, gorgeous ladies though.

Welcome to the forum, Bob. It is easy to join, if interested. I'll look around to see what I can find even in old threads here but we have some really good computer people on the forum that will find ya something probably before me. Did she have her Cub Scout's uniform on for the concert, Bob? eddiejinnj

My first Linda Ronstadt concert was on September 14, 1977 at the Special Events Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. She sang "Love Me Tender" solo and not as a duet. She sang it great. She dedicated the song to Elvis. I have to say I was disappointed when it came out as a duet on Living in the USA. I was also hoping to see Andrew Gold in the band, too. There are 2 singers that I have always thought sang incredible live (better than on recordings). They are Gregg Allman and Linda Ronstadt. I know she didn't wear the Cub Scout uniform.

Hi and welcome to the forum, guest. It is easy to join, if interested. "Love Me Tender" on "Living in the USA" was not a duet. She had backing vocals but it is not a duet or I personally have never thought it to be. Especially with the sparse arrangement. It was a great tribute to Elvis. There was a duet made putting Elvis' vocals with Linda's and I heard it got airplay but it was not on the album and am not even sure it was an official single. I don't think it was. I have heard it but am not sure on the radio. Thanks for your input. eddiejinnj

Listened to "Love Me Tender" on youtube. One of the comments discussed a DJ creating the Elvis/Linda mix and the commentator used it to walk down the aisle when getting married. eddiejinnj

In the Articles & Interviews section on this site—photo in Circus magazine October 27, 1977–cut-offs, tied floral shirt, flower—maybe from the August 16, 1977 show?

I was at the concert when she walked off-stage. It was a major disappointment after sitting through an interminable opening set from Bernie Leadon, she only sang two or three songs. To say we were unhappy is an understatement. I never had an opportunity to see her again.

The concert I attended was at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY. It’s not on the list published here. I cannot remember the date except that it was in August.

The concert I attended was at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY. It’s not on the list published here. I cannot remember the date except that it was in August. Wednesday August 23. John Rockwell discussed it in his August 26 NY Times review of Simple Dreams: ronstadt.proboards.com/thread/6585/rockwell-simple-dreams-before-release"Speaking of Miss Ronstadt, the singer broke off her performance in mid‐set Wednesday night at the Rockland College Fieldhouse in Suffern, N.Y. She had been feeling tired and ill the last few days, and consulted physicians yesterday in Manhattan, but no decision was reached on whether her current tour would continue. Miss Ronstadt returned her Wednesday fee to the promoters and hopes to do a makeup concert." Linda talked about to Rockwell in New Times (October 14, 1977): ronstadt-linda.com/artnt77.htm"The clouds began to gather when she had a dream in Maryland about being attacked and bitten by her favorite animals, "ducks and bunnies." It was only the next day, when a children's petting zoo was discovered near the site of the concert, that she could allay her not-so-simple dreams by spending a half-hour petting soft little animals. But next week in the bus, driving from New York to Tanglewood, trouble was in the air again. Linda was uncharacteristically mute on the way up, curled under a blanket and watching Star Wars on the video cassette. At the show she looked tense and scared, retreating back to Ricky Marotta on drums between every song and clearly nursing her voice by singing at half volume when she could get away with it. The next night in Suffern, New York, it all came to a head. After the fifth song she simply felt too weak and faint to continue, and the audience's money was refunded. She toyed with canceling the tour and slinking back home to Malibu, but visits to a throat specialist and a gynecologist in New York proved reassuring, as did a talk with her doctor in Los Angeles. On the telephone she sounded shaken but determined. "We're going to take it day by day," she said. "I really think everything in my life led to last night."

I have added the cancelled concert since she technically started it. Wed was the 24th. She did perform at Tanglewood Aug 23rd and almost cancelled the concert as the Boston Symphony Ochestra had sound level restrictions and told her she had to adhere to those or else. Apparently they had someone mointor this during the concert without incident, however the machine they used to register levels only went to 100 Db so who knows if she went over that. They certainly had no idea and it all seems rather silly. Hopefull the pic from the Aug 23 concert is there. The review mentions she had a sore throat that night Attachments:

I am trying to track more newspaper reviews down so I can get more pictures as well.

So I added more dates and ran into an issue. The Atlanta Consitiution ran a year end best of article Dec 24, 1977 and Linda won for her concerts at Atlanta's Civic Center. They ran the photo from what has always been listed as the concert from Dec 01 - Fox Theatre.
It got me thinking. Is it possible that concert date/venue has been wrong all this time and the bootleg floating around is her concert on either Nov 3 or 4 at the Civic Center? The fact she did her last show Nov 18 and then nothing for two weeks and then just the one concert on Dec 01 has always made me scratch my head a little.
Does anyone have confirmation? I will keep looking around to see what I can find.

I feel like 1977 is pretty much done now. I still have questions about the dec 01 show though, but will just leave it until any new info comes along

I expect tours took it out of her, she was/is remarkably resilient. But ladies' and other health issues, diet on the road etc probably took their toll. I wonder if she thought she was pregnant.

Thanks, Rick, for posting. I never got to see Linda at the Capitol Theater. It seems she never played there, tmk, after I started to go to her concerts in '80.

I will keep looking around to see what I can find. Nothing in the Atlanta newspaper archives for the first week in December at any venue in Atlanta. So, I'd guess one or both of her November show(s) were featured on the bootleg. Further confirmation: The Dec 1, 1977, issue of the Atlanta Constitution mentions that the Fox Theatre was in danger of being demolished at that time and was eking by on money earned from smaller productions in the theatre. Obviously, a show by Linda would hardly qualify as a small production. The only event that week was an organ recital by Virgil Fox. So, I think you are safe saying that Linda played Nov 3-4, and not Dec 1, in Atlanta.

This info came from a mix of things like concert reviews, newspaper listings and Billboard Boxoffice returns. There may be some inaccuracies, so if you see anything, tell me and I will amend the post. NOVEMBER 13th Memorial Hall Joplin Missouri USA The November 13, 1977, concert was held in Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas, rather than Joplin, Missouri.
