very fine article, and a nice shot out to the old website. The comment about Linda being 'shockingly absent' from the Rolling Stone great singers list was particularly telling..

Not that I necessarily think that Jann Wenner feels anything resembling shame when it comes to his magazine's indifferent neglect towards Linda; but if he reads this, he really ought to be ashamed (IMHO).

That was a beautifully written article. I hope it does raise the hairs on the back of Jann Wenner's neck. He rightly deserves the slights "he" has received in this article!!

I thought the article went a long way in reminding everyone what a big deal Linda was, and in so many ways still is, to generations of female country and roots-rock singers. And I do think that, for all the well-deserved accolades she has received from the Mexican-American community over the last three years, people should be reminded that what Linda did in the 70s and 80s wasn't frivolous, disposable junk music. It formed part of the soundtrack to our lives; and for a lot of great female singers of today (Sheryl; Trisha; Tift, etc.), Linda was the must that spurred them on to do what they love. This aspect, more than ever, needs to be emphasized constantly (IMHO).

I don't think Linda's peers should be faulted for sticking to something if it's their wish, especially if they are any good (and many of them are), just to prop up Linda's diverse nature; and I don't think Linda herself would do it. As nauseated as we may be of Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, we have Trisha, Sheryl, Tift, etc., and it was Our Girl that helped to inspire them.

Great article. I just have no patience for commentators that go to the article just to cut her down. You can't rewrite history, the girl set standards and broke records.
