Prayers or positive thoughts are definitely needed as both Merle's and Mel's illnesses can be fatal because of the ages they are. Keeping my fingers crossed for both of them.

That any of them survived as long as they've actually done, given the often hard lives they lead, is something of a miracle. But eventually, age catches up.
Maybe we're being reminded too much of our own mortality by seeing so many of our heroes die off, but I do think it is important to realize that life itself is extremely fragile, and one must live it to the fullest.

Very true, Life is for the Living.
I have the feeling that this General Music Discussion section is going to be full of obituaries this year.
Praying for Merle and Mel.

We better get used to the bad news and come to terms with death and our mortality because from now on this will be a regular course of events as we BOOMERS die off.
Any bets on WHO will be the last star standing?

Any bets on WHO will be the last star standing? If you're talking about the artists born during the Baby Boomer generation, that would be anyone of course born between 1945 and 1964. Those born before or after are not considered part of the Baby Boomers generation. It's likely those of us who are Baby Boomers won't know that answer because we ourselves won't be here. And it's likely neither will a good many of those born after 1964. And those who make it to a ripe old age may not remember them anyway, but as you rightly note, we Boomers are now a dying breed. I don't mind, it's the way it's got to be but I'd rather not be there when it happens.

It's an interest group of lists, no question about that but it's a mistake to call everyone who are on those lists rock stars. Some are, some are not. It'd be better to substitute the word music [stars] for rock [stars], since that would cover all of the genres and those who are in the music business but not necessarily performers.
