So on his show this week, Howard talked about an article he read or a YouTube video he saw about remakes that were better than the originals and he mentioned Linda's Tumbling Dice. I fully expected him to scoff at the notion but I was pleasantly surprised to hear him say he agreed her version is better than The Rolling Stones. And Howard is a HUGE Stones fan. He also said he really loved her voice in general. A nice little moment on the show!

She sang "You Send Me." I'd love to have a recording of that.

I believe Phoebe Snow sang at his wedding. At Howard's? Wow. Which wedding ? I believe he has married more than once.

Linda was absolutely everywhere in the media from ‘77 through ‘80 and firmly at the peak of super stardom. I think what was happening was she was so intensely famous no one felt bad poking gentle fun at her. It wasn’t necessarily personal. A lame joke like that one could land because she was such a household name. Ludden said right at the beginning that she didn’t write it. It wasn’t even a funny bit. There are much dumber lyrics out there. David Letterman was always extremely supportive of Linda and never snarky about her when she was on his show. He was sometimes an asshole to his guests. Never her. Actually you could tell he was VERY much a fan. When she sang The Waiting in his studio he said “better than Tom.” I remember thinking Julia Louis Dreyfus was ridiculing Linda on SNL with her “What’s New” parody. Now I see it as less of a cheap shot and more as a kind of compliment. SNL liked Linda. That became obvious. Linda was stuck in a kind of catch 22 in the late 70s because no one could feel particularly sorry for a woman so independent smart rich and gorgeous. She admitted her song choices turned a lot more assertive as a result. Hasten was her most somber work, and my favorite. But by the time Living in the USA went triple platinum she knew projecting an unlucky in love romantic victim was harder to swallow.a HDTW & HLAW are my 2 every-track favourite albums, my Desert Island choices. Letterman & Carson were both always Linda fans. No host made Linda laugh like those 2 did. Linda made a couple of bad decisions in her career, those being her South Africa performances, & going on the Howard Stern show. The latter decision mystifies baffles me totally.

I don't think Linda ever appeared on Howard Stern's show-- she was just a topic of conversation. But I would have loved to have seen/heard that. Linda did not have much time to speak during the Leno appearance, after having listened to Robin Quivers babble on for an eternity. After Carson retired, the late night talk show hosts rarely gave musicians more than a minute of interview time, if that.

HB, you went off topic and you asked others when you posted a recent thread to stay on topic. Just start another thread or in this case add to threads on that topic This Betty thing has significant response and analysis which I find fascinating. Just a procedurally recommendation. eddiejinfl

Let's put this one to rest once and for all. Linda never appeared on the Howard Stern Show. How anyone could think that she would baffles me. She went head to head with Robin Quivers, Stern's co-host, on the Tonight Show. To my knowledge, that's the extent of her Stern connection (other than some imbecilic comments that Stern made about Linda on his show regarding Canciones and her weight). Can we please stop talking about this man? He long ago used up his 15 minutes.

I think this to be off topic but I get your wanting to not want to discuss Stern as far as Linda is concerned. Posting the vid I am not sure will accomplish that and on top of it on a Steve Martin Linda mention and the Betty/Alan connection thread. eddiejinfl Jim Carrey mentioned dating Linda on Stern. Bit AFA Linda, as a topic on the show

As I was walking my dog I was listening to Howard Stern on Sirius, he interviewed Kacey Musgraves (which was a really good and long interview IMO) During the interview he asked Kacey about songwriting and if she felt bad for people (artists) that did not write their own songs and if she could imagine not writing her own songs.. She responded that she could not and would feel like a Karaoke singer.. but when on to say other artists may not feel that way.. (Yes, I thought of Linda) Howard must have read my mind.. He said, One of the best singers in the whole wide world was Linda Ronstadt.. but she couldn't write. I wonder if that was a great frustration of hers."Kacey responded, "maybe." I thought.. Linda has spoken about that... I think Howard would love to interview Linda.. He really admires her as an artist.. Not sure Some would agree.. and Linda might not go or it.. But who knows, Howard has recently interviewed Dolly, Barbra and Even Secretary of State Clinton.. anyway, the Kacey Musgraves interview was very good.. She has a new album/CD out, Deeper Well.
