This is just....well, I don't know what words can describe it. He was so genuinely diverse as both actor and straightforward comic genius. His loss creates one hell of a void in both entertainment and life in general (IMHO).

Just heard this on the news. Depression and resulting suicides have taken so many talented people from us. His idol Jonathan Winters was fortunate to recover from his depression. RIP

I was at work when the news broke, and heard a coworker who had been looking at the internet mention that Robin Williams had died. I couldn't believe it. I got online myself and read the very sad news. I guess it shouldn't be so shocking and surprising about the suicide as it's said many comedians are often depressed away from the stage, but still, Robin's death does sadden one. I can't think of many actor-comedians who upped the level of comedy like he did by being so consistently funny throughout his shows. Farewell Robin, and may your spiritual journey give you peace and what you could not find here.

Quote by sliderocker:
I think it is oftentimes that comedians do what they do to hide a certain amount of depression, anxiety, or demons. Something like that happened with Peter Sellers during the height of his fame, from the early 1960s up until his untimely passing in 1980; and both he and Williams shared this ability to be at their best onscreen in comedies that have what we might consider elements of the grotesque. And the other thing to keep in mind is the old saying that "Dying is easy; comedy is hard." It's never easy to make people laugh consistently, but Williams certainly seemed to have that ability. That factor makes his loss all that much more palpable (IMHO).

I heard about the parkinson's...I'm wondering if he even reached out to her about it.

And the irony of his portrayal of Dr. Oliver Sacks in Awakenings. Perhaps what he learned and observed about Parkinson's while making that movie only deepened his despair...

From TMZ:
Robin Williams' Parkinson's diagnosis had an impact on his depressed state ... on both a psychological and physiological level -- but it's NOT why he committed suicide ... multiple sources connected to the family tell TMZ.We're told ... Robin was struggling emotionally with the diagnosis ... like anyone would. Our sources say Parkinson's was NOT the reason for his depression ... something Robin lived with for years. But we're told the Parkinson's news "exacerbated" his depressed state of mind. We're also told doctors were treating Robin with meds to slow the progression of the disease down, and the cocktail -- which was a work in progress to get right -- also had a negative impact on his emotional state. And doctors believe Parkinson's itself physiologically triggers depression in people. But our sources make it clear ... the diagnosis of Parkinson's did NOT trigger Robin's suicide. It was the result of chronic, intense depression that dogged the actor for much of his life.

I will be missing Robin Williams' perspective... Just looking at an old standup where he depicted Canada as the 'nicest country in the world; like a sweet apartment over a meth lab'...
