I think the tour she did in September and October may have been it, but, as with a lot of things related to Linda, one can never count her out, Parkinson's or not.

If she will I am sure she is taking some time to rest. From what I have heard through the grapevine it really was tiring for her. My sister was just diagnosed (at 52)with Parkinson's. I have done some reading on it and the worst thing for those with the disease is tiring themselves to much. Pushing themselves beyond what tires them will make the effects worse. It also can speed the disease up. I just found out my sister was re- diagnosed last week with a form of Parkinson's, or mimics Parkinson's to a tee except that it is very rare and even worse. The average is 4 out of every 100,000 people get it. It is not called Parkinson's. It is called MSA which is Multi Systematic Atrophy. Parkinson's meds don't work and there are no meds on the market to help with MSA. She is going to have to have a trachea put in because her muscles are collapsing on the larynx. She hardly has a voice and she gets short of breath when talking. This is a woman who has been an exercise freak since childhood. Iron Man every year. Never above 14% body fat. The average live span after being diagnosed of MSA is 7.5 years. This scares the hell out of me because we started noticing the change and symptoms two years ago. Like Linda, it took some time to determine it was Parkinson's with my sister, and none of us knew anything about MSA. She would have been the last of my family I would have imagined to get something like this. A health freak, no drug use, no drinking. She is in that stage of "what did I do to myself, I was trying so hard to live a healthy life." Sorry for being so long on this but I need to get it out. I just learned of the MSA diagnosis a couple days ago. Very sad. Her husband is 75, she 52 with no children. I would think a situation like this would be her husband, he being much older. 52 is young for Parkinson's. MSA usually hits around 50 though and mostly in men. I pray John Hopkins team of doctors that came to the MSA diagnosis are wrong. Great hospitals make mistaken diagnosis too. Or at least I am hoping and praying that to be the case. I also say a prayer often for "Our Girl". It blows my mind considering singing was her passion and such an important part of her life, not to mention all her longtime fans. WHY??? I know that is a foolish question and a real waste of time once knowing of the disease. It is what is and excepting it and moving forward with the knowledge is all one can do. There is no time to waste on "WHY", but its part of the process of coming to terms with the reality of it. Linda is a strong women, so is my sister. Fingers are firmly crossed!

THAT WAS A PHONED IN INTERVIEW FROM HER HOME. MUCH DIFFERENT THEN IN STORE APPEARENCES AND OR A TICKET PAYING EVENT FOR DISCUSSION ON HER CAREER. I just hope she will take some time. Her health and quality of life is the most important thing. Not pushing her book or the constant interviews saying the same thing over and over because she is asked the exact same questions over and over. I did think the radio interview recently posted answered a few questions we have had. Like do you look down on fans of the music she has implied meant less to her and those from her heyday and the least exciting of her career that many of her fans love. I also like her confirmation of the duet album. That sound pretty concrete to me.

I know it was phoned in but I am saying it is a form of book promo set up by the publisher. Definitely different than a signing but I wanted to convey that she is still doing promo. Somebody said that it is in its second publication/edition. Wonder how many books have been sold? She seems to be doing well but that is based on no other data than my own perceptions/wishes. eddiejinnj

Unlike albums and singles, where you have some idea of how much is being sold because of the record industry and Billboard, book publishers keep the figures to themselves. Most of the time. My guess would be the first edition could've been anything from 20,000 copies to 200,000 copies. Book companies and record companies are a lot alike in that regard in that they don't press nearly as many copies as you think. If you overestimate sales and publish/press too many copies and it doesn't even make the sales expectation, that can mean a lot of copies to buy back. And what can't be sold to the secondary (cut-out) market usually ends up being destroyed. Linda had been off of the public radar for some time and I'd bet S&S probably thought Linda's book sales wouldn't have been that high because of being out of the limelight. But, then, along came Linda's announcement that she is suffering from Parkinson's and that helped drive her sales. But, as to how many sales, it is a hard call

I suspect that the book tour was a bit more grueling than hoped. I had pre-ordered signed copies from one of the venues early in the tour. They reported back that she was physically unable to fulfill all the requests while onsite, but said if I could be patient, she promised to honor all the pre-orders once the tour was over and she'd had some time to rest. True to her word, I received my signed copies last week. It took awhile, but they came just in time for holiday gift-giving!

Karenf that is great! If Linda Ronstadt is anything she is true to her word. She was brought up well and that parenting she received has served her well. How many on this forum love her just as much for what she stands for as her music? As much as I love her music, it has been her ethics and her strength of spirit that has kept me the fan that I am. Hoping one day to somehow get my copy signed as well. Long shot I know but I have the faith it might well happen.

Simon & Schuster said in the advance publicity data that the first printing was 150,000 copies.

The books she signed at home following the tour are in ballpoint pen, eddiejinnj. From what I understand, Parkinson's results in progressively smaller penmanship - often noticeable from the first letter of a word to the last as the person tires, so perhaps her switch to a narrower pen helps keep her signatures legible. Although smaller than I've seen in the past, it is still recognizably her signature. I am so thrilled to have it! I'm sending my older brother my second copy for Christmas - he is the one who started playing Stone Poneys records around the house when I was four, introducing me to that impeccable voice.

karenf: You're so lucky to get a signed copy regardless if it was in person or sent later. And very cool that Linda was true to her word! She's a very lovely woman! Regarding a second leg of a book tour, I have to agree that this last one was most grueling on her considering the health state she is in now. It definitely took a toll on her in DC as I was in line to get her autograph when she cut short the session due to not feeling well. I mean days prior she was in NYC and Boston and flying around, making interviews, doing the book tour--that would strain anyone young or old! Anyway, again consider yourself most lucky and fortunate to get Ms. Ronstadt's signature!

Perhaps there will be another go-round when the book comes out in paperback. Perhaps...
