Probably the only person who doesn't care that she's in the RRHOF is Linda herself. These days, she seems to have distanced herself from that period in her life with disregard, even disdain in certain instances. I doubt it was ever a high priority for her. I'm sure the Latin grammy gave her far more pleasure, both personally and professionally.
I agree she should be in there, but I'm no longer holding my breath. Same goes for the Supremes' reunion. The time has come and gone.

I wouldn't be too hasty there. I think that she has become a fair bit more philosophical about that period in her life, if we are to go by her comments at Grace Cathedral back in February. True, it may not have ever been a high priority for her, but anyone who actually does make stardom the highest priority for themselves is asking for trouble (IMHO).
But Mr. Henley is, of course, spot on about this--Linda not being in there, for whatever excuse Wenner and his boys come up with, is not merely a travesty, it is, in my opinion, borderline criminal.

There's probably nothing a quart of prunes an a well placed 2X4 timber that wouldn't fix Mr Wenner's overstuffed ego,,,

Bravo and kudos to Don for speaking truth to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's ugliness and pettiness. I was on some website about performers who are likely to be future members of the Rock and Roll Hall ofFame. Linda was mentioned among a number of solo artists and bands whose names had been submitted for consideration, but who couldn't get enough votes from the nominating committee to go to rest of the hall members for a vote. That site didn't say how they obtained their information, could've been full of hot air, yet I recall one former hall member who was on the nominating committee who was extremely critical of those who made the nominations because they did nominate base according to their likes and dislikes, rather than voting on an artist's personal merit. Not everyone shares chairman Mao Jann Wenner's personal likes/dislikes, but he has the nominating committee members staffed with enough of his buddies and associates who share his likes and make sure they get in, while at the same time blocking those he dislikes from being considered.

I would expect no less, given that Linda was most gracious in giving Mr. Henley the start to his most successful career... frankly, it is the least he could do...

One would think all of the Eagles who were members of Linda's band before they were the Eagles, would be speaking out. Or anyone who was associated with her directly or indirectly (like Jackson Browne or James Taylor). That does make me wonder: who, besides Don, of her friends or musical associates has championed her for nomination and being inducted?

In his recent memoir Waging Heavy Peace, Neil Young said he finds it incredible that Linda has been excluded; and he would be willing to be present to help her be inducted, if her induction were in fact to occur.

I know this year's class had for the first time a vote for the fans on who should be inducted, but that was when the nominees were already mentioned.
In Linda's case, I don't think she's even been nominated; maybe they can have a fan vote on who should be nominated too? Having that, the lovely Ms. Ronstadt would be a shoo-in, definitely.

In Linda's case, she had been eligible since at least 1994, and maybe 1992 if you count her work with the Stone Poneys beginning in 1967. But not once in all those years has she even been on a short list for possible inductees. It's long past due.

well, I am glad he spoke up, and he sounded passionate with his complaint, and rightfully so. I hope others will speak up too.Even though, it may or may not mean diddly squat to Linda, but this is very important to her fans and of course, music/rock n roll history as well. It does mean something.

My opinion, for what it's worth (admittedly not much [LOL]), is that Linda's induction should have come in 1998 with the Eagles; it only seemed right. And even if she actually did get inducted next year and showed up, to me it'd still ring rather hollow.

Her induction is WAY past due, and it should've happened in 1998. What better way to honor Linda than to induct her with the band she helped form in the first place. Those guys may have not been on that stage and in that hall or even be performing today if it wasn't for her. They all owe her a huge debt of gratitude and so does the entire rock music world. But like you said, even if she would be inducted next year, it would still be much too late. I would still feel a lot of resentment for it taking so long, as I'm sure most of her fans would.

It does mean something. I think it could matter to Linda to some degree. After all, it would be recognition for her contributions to the music by her peers and those within the industry who are members of the hall, and who vote on the nominees once they make it past the nominating committee. It probably matters more to her fans than it does to Linda and for that reason, it should matter to the hall, since it is a for profit business. Linda is one of many certain acts with a fan base that is vocal about the hall slighting their favorite artists. And it's that fan base the hall depends on to come to the museum and spend their money. Linda should've been a given from the moment she was eligible as she met all of the hall's criteria. That she (and others) aren't in because of a group of people's personal likes and dislikes and pettiness is something that shouldn't be allowed. If they have axes to grind, they should remove themselves from the nominating process on those artists and let others vote on whether or not to nominate them. They could still vote on the artists with the rest of the hall members who vote, but it does seem to be the whole idea is to keep certain eligible acts out altogether. And they want my money? Well, if some of the acts I like aren't good enough to be in, the hall's not good enough for me to part with my money. And they can go f--k themselves!

It is about time her friends in the Hall started grumbling.

it almost seems weird now for her to get in. I am not a person to beg for things or give that perception. though, linda herself has not done this. heart just got in so I wonder if it was the same for them. that fans were protesting for so long then they got in. the group still accepted the award. eddiejinnj

You'd think that with the Eagles, Neil Young, James Taylor, Jonie Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne (talk about conspicuous absence!) there would be plenty of her inducted peers on board to rattle a few cages.

One would hope.... frankly my favorite Hall of Shame reaction is Johnny Rotten's (Lydon) sneering rejection...

I kind of doubt it; that would be totally unlike Linda (IMHO). I wouldn't be shocked if she either accepts or declines induction now, however. If she did accept, it'd be nice (though still sixteen years too late). If she declined, I don't she'd turn Rotten on us.

I believe that although she may not care for it, if she is nominated and inducted, she would see it as a high honour. As Neil Peart (of Rush), in this year's induction speech, said (and I paraphrase): "We've been saying for a long time, years really, that this wasn't a big deal. Turns out, it kind of is!"I think Linda would concur if she were inducted as well.

It is kind of like the Pope coming to visit. Seems exciting and wonderful at the time. And then it's over and your like... what just happened and why all the fuss?

It is kind of like the Pope coming to visit. Seems exciting and wonderful at the time. And then it's over and your like... what just happened and why all the fuss? I think most fans experience a "Now what?" moment once the artist is nominated and inducted, because once their favorite artist is in, they can no longer complain about the artist being excluded. It's over. How many would trek to the hall just to see what they have on the artist in their museum? Very few would be my guess. How many would lose interest altogether? Most, if not all. Their favorite is in, there's nothing more they need to do, now what? Bug the hall about other deserving artists or would they lay down their swords, figuratively speaking? Some probably would ask what just happened and why all the fuss, but I think some would feel a sense of accomplishment though I think for others, they live for the battle and the right to complain about an artist being excluded.
