I hope she realizes wearing Cub Scout as a woman is nothing new, though I agree with why Madonna did it, Linda looked better in the outfit.

Madonna may realize that she's not the first woman to wear that outfit, but whether the media does or not is another story.
It should be said that Seattle-based alt-folk singer Brandi Carlile has also been known to wear Boy Scout outfits on stage during performances as well.

Katy Perry has done so as well.

I hope she realizes wearing Cub Scout as a woman is nothing new, though I agree with why Madonna did it, Linda looked better in the outfit. When I first saw this thread, I was thinking, "What? Madonna in a cub scout uniform? When did she do this?" Then I looked it up. Yes, Linda did look much better in her outfit......that's an understatement. Even if Madonna had worn Linda's outfit when she was younger, she still wouldn't have looked as good. Linda could wear anything and look cute and sexy. I only ever liked a couple of songs by Madonna. I've never been a fan of hers, as an artist or as a person. I never even thought she was that attractive to be honest. My older brother believe it or not was crazy about her when she did "Like a Virgin." I always thought she was pretty trashy and disgusting. Linda on the other hand.......well, I don't even like to mention her in the same sentence. There's no comparison in any way, shape or form. To me, Madonna is an entertainer and a pop culture phenomenon....and that's all. Linda is a pure, natural singer. She is a goddess compared to Madonna.......beautiful, sexy, sweet, innocent.....with an angelic voice.

here is one photo I found with Anderson Cooper, whom she paid tribute to. Anyway, she is almost 55 years old.. The face looks good, granted she's obviously had work.. and the body is beginning to look like a 55 yr old woman.. I like where her heart was at. love her.. and yes, Linda rocked the cub scout uniform!!!

I suppose that, from a political standpoint, Madonna was right. In too many ways, however, to me she still represents a lot of what I didn't enjoy about the 1980s: the excesses; the beginnings of true tabloid trash culture; the emphasis of spectacle over substance. We're living with what she wrought, in the form of Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, J-Lo, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, etc.
All that Linda ever did, Cub Scout dresses and all, was vocally influence four generations of like-minded female roots-rock, mainstream country, and alt-country artists, from Emmylou, Nicolette Larson, and Rosanne Cash, to Trisha Yearwood, Sheryl Crow, Martina McBride, Tift Merritt, and Caitlin Rose.
Granted it's naive to think that substance has any value over the shocks that Madonna can provide, insofar as media perceptions go. But there it is, for what it's worth (IMHO).

I absolutely agree with you there. I'm 39 and grew up in the 1980s, and even I didn't like most of what that decade stood for. And yes, Madonna certainly influenced the so-called female singers of today. Like you said: "spectacle over substance." It's a shame; very sad I think. It seems that Linda has been ignored in recent years for this very reason; in the music industry and entertainment in general. It's just like reality tv shows. Unfortunately, that's what people find entertaining these days I guess.

As a quote I saw said 'The 80s - the decade where good taste was in a corner doing coke!... as far as Madonna in the uniform, she is as close to Linda as she is vocally... which is not even close at all..

And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Madonna getting "up there in years", so to speak--like, say, 55? Beyond the political statement (and, presumably, shock waves as well) that she was trying to make, isn't she getting long in the tooth for pulling stunts like this to begin with? I mean, forget Lady Gaga for a minute, folks; this is beyond silly (IMHO).

It was cute when she was in her 20's, 30's and even 40's.. and I think it's great when people take pride in their appearance and want to look good, esp those in the public eye (Jane Fonda i.e).... no matter how hard you try, work out ect, the body at 55 ain't gonna be able to pull off those cute little outfits (as pictured above) it just looks stupid.

Madoona wore the outfit as an afront to the Scout org. plans on discouraging gays from being members.

I never thought Madonna was all that bad. She was more of an entertainer than a singer at least to my mind. She sure liked being the center of attention which was opposite to our lovely Linda. I think had Linda been more outrageous she would have been more popular or transformational but then that wouldn't really be Linda would it?

And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Madonna once criticize Linda for not using all of her talents (as if Madge knew more about Linda than Linda herself)?

She looked HOT in that cub scout outfit. I wish I was older and could've been a teenager in the '70s. Linda would have definitely been my pin-up girl.

What's weird, like Linda she "claims," to be a very shy person..which, is kind of hard to believe, esp with her stage antics and outspoken personality.. As I've said before, i believe most or all entertainers must have this need for attention (even Linda) . You have to .. to get up on that stage in front of so many people.

I always thought Madonna had a killer body. Just curious what she/Madonna meant by Linda not using all of her talents? I think that may be true of everyone. Linda may have been a late bloomer in a sense. I think she is still discovering her talents. Youth is really wasted on the young.

I remember a back-handed compliment from Linda praising Madonna as a talented performer or performance artist. The omission of the word "singer" seemed glaring to me, at least in the articles context. In the same article or perhaps another one she praised Beyonce as not only being beautiful, but with a great set of pipes, which was unquestionably a compliment.

I think Madonna was/is definately in shape and small. There was a period in the very beginning of her career she carried a little more weight. but she is a dancer and will probably always have an athletic body type, which I will give her credit for. We can't help how we are built, which I think her build is fine and she has nice boobs ha ha. I think at one point Linda was into running and not eating so much and it showed, she got really thin- waif like too. Both ladies are small in stature, and in their prime, IMO they both looked Amazing..Madonna more exotic and flashy . and Linda cute sexy. As a style point of view of was intruiged by both of these icons for different reasons.
