A question and a request

I was listening to the Live 1977 recording of "Tracks of My Tears" on Youtube, and realized that the pitch in the first link is much higher than the second:



Why do you think they were pitched differently? And which one do you guys think is correct? (The lower one is more in line with the pitch of the actual song, but it has worse video quality than the second, which makes me wonder if there was something wrong with the file.)

Also, does anyone happen to have a copy of Linda singing "Take it Easy" with the Eagles? It's disappeared from Youtube. Thanks

This show seems to mostly circulate as audio-only.

This copy here is from a recent transfer of a pre-broadcast source and is excellent video and audio quality from a low gen. Beta tape. Check the screen grabs and audio samples to get an idea of the quality. Extensive web searching did not turn up any released material.

Chaptered with selection menu.
Choice of AC3 - Dolby Digital or linear PCM audio.

Lineage & transfer:
Low gen. Pre-broadcast U-Matic tape > Super Beta Hi-Fi tape > Sony SL-HF450 > Sony DVMC-DA2 Media Converter > Apple Macintosh Final Cut Pro (nip and tuck edits, filter to replace bottom of screen "head switch jitter" with black and chaptering) > Compressor > DVD Studio Pro (menus/authoring) > VIDEO_TS file set.

Audio post capture processing in Pro Tools (DC offset, normalization and fades). Audio placed back into Final Cut Pro before Compressor down-sampling.

Video: NTSC 720x480 VBR 7.7 Mbps peak, 6.2 Mbps average data rate, 2-pass.
Audio - choice of: Dolby Digital 2/0 (L,R), 48 kHz sample rate, 448 kbps data rate
or
Linear PCM (2 channel 48kHz 16 bit). (The audio is dual monophonic TV audio).

It's not that the two versions were originally pitched differently, but that one version has suffered more quality degradation before being uploaded. They originally were VHS recordings and the low pitch and worse picture quality version is a multi-generational vhs copy, (a copy of a copy of a copy...). VHS being an analogue system means the copy is always worse than the original. The higher audio frequencies (treble) disappear first so it sounds muffled. Also it is playing slower (7 seconds slower over the song) so the pitch is lowered). To slow that amount it's probably been badly converted from PAL to NTSC and back several times too, making the picture quality even worse. The top one is low quality and slow (I think your upper and lower descriptions got swapped).

Cool stuff--never seen this performance of Take It Easy although I have seen the other songs with Linda done.

At first, during the second verse, it looked like Randy Meisner didn't know the words, but then I realized it was off-sync. Also, they didn't show enough of Linda IMO!
