As we all know, on November 18, Linda was honored by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) for her tireless activism for Mexican-Americans, and her fight against the shameless bigotry happening against immigrants in her home state of Arizona. Here is the video from MALDEF that celebrates her achievements:

The problem is that it isn't really much (or, for some, enough), at least in terms of the mainstream media (IMHO). Some of it just may be due to Linda's concentration on these issues close to her heart, which don't get the media's eye unless, as had happened almost two years ago in Phoenix, they are accompanied by mass demonstrations against Joe Arpaio or like-minded "lawmen."
By the same token, however, I have to wonder whether the Latino media itself isn't selling Linda's non-Latino fans, present company included, short when it comes to what we know about Linda. She mentioned her Mexican background fairly ecstatically in the February 1971 edition of Hit Parader magazine; and there was "Lo Siento Mi Vida" on Hasten Down The Wind as well. Maybe her having white skin and a German surname threw many others for a loop, but not us dedicated Ronstadt fans.
