Yes, this is really creepy, and it's probably causing 'Livvy to do somersaults in her resting place...not to mention what it would do to Linda (that is, if she has heard it for herself).

Bloody awful. Apologies to John Farrar but Linda would have slammed the door on this song had it been offered to her. You could drive a truck through that vibrato. Why does this exist?

It shouldn’t exist. And the person in the photos thinking she represents Linda is delusional.

what about this one?
"Landslide"
or this one
"American Pie"
or this one
"Ode to Billie Joe" Some of the AI photos make me do a double take. Linda's voice is not perfected here yet but give it time and we won't know what to believe.

Below, NY Times November 1, 1989-so why is AI like these Linda miseries allowed? Bette’s case involved a huge corporation profiting from an imitation of her voice without her permission but as musedeva indicated above, I also think it’s because the fair-use laws just haven’t caught up with AI yet.
“The jury in the Federal District Court in Los Angeles agreed with Ms. Midler's assertions that Young & Rubicam had hired a singer to imitate her rendition of the 1958 song ''Do You Wanna Dance'' for commercials for the Ford Motor Company's Lincoln-Mercury division in 1985. The jury ordered the advertising agency to pay Ms. Midler $400,000 in damages.”

It was funny "seeing Linda" sitting on the porch watching the grass grow. "Next time y'all are in Loooseeana stop by, ya hear."
Seriously, the next step is they will create new "stars" from scratch using A.I.
There are two things that humans have that A.I. machines or robots will never have. Hope and a Sense of Humor.

I believe the late, great science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke said it best when he said something to the effect that the big test of how far our technology advances would be at the point where, if you were to have a conversation with someone and you couldn't tell whether that someone was an actual human being or a machine. This from a legend who created the most (in)famous example of AI there is: HAL.
As for AI-generated Linda vocals--obviously, as I've said, creepy as hell. Would I have wanted her to sing "Landslide"? Yes, but I'd have wanted to really be her!

Does this mean one day we’ll see an entirely AI version of Grease! With a “Linda” and an “Elvis Presley” AI’ed in to the Olivia and John Travolta roles? I guess it’ll be possible and it wIll seem normal as something the fans just do on their own for themselves. We’ve already been told the future is casting YOURSELF in a movie. So YOU GET TO BE the Tom Cruise or Julia Roberts character. Anyone will be able to make a record and anyone who wants a fake but pretty convincing “Linda” to duet or provide backing vocals will get it. Is that so horrible? It’s the future. Maybe it’s a compliment to her, longevity, immortality. Not exactly sure how I feel about it to be honest. I will say the examples above are atrocious. A true fan will one day make “Linda” versions of “Accidentally Like A Martyr” or “September Song” or “I Still Have That Other Girl,” which are all songs Linda said she actually wishes she had recorded.

Well. I likely won’t like either. Here’s hoping, while it obviously will exist (it already does,) it’ll be easy to ignore.

At that time I was working at an entertainment trade publication and one of the music reporters covered the trial. She came back to the newsroom the day that Bette Midler testified and I wish I had the exact quote but Bette said she didn’t want to be associated in any way with the Ford Motor Company because “everyone knows Fords are lemons.” Or words to that effect.

Excellent Rick, I didn’t remember that it was Ula. My favorite Bette introduction of the Harlettes: “They function as a Greek chorus. These girls don't know shit about Euripides but they know plenty about Trojans.”

I saw Bette and The Harlettes many times back-in-the day. They were all phenomenal shows and Ula Hedwig is super cool! I saw Ula perform solo several years ago, but I haven't heard anything about her recently.

On the have you "never been mellow" video.. Is that an actual AI or a real person impersonating? hard to tell with all the heavy breathing and sighs lol... but, there are some aspects (and don't jump all over me lol) in the vocals that do sound like Linda's voice.. aside the weird dot dot dot vibrato at the end which is not Linda's or Olivia's which made me think a live person recorded this? no?

Dianna my understanding of the tech is they do a "mash up" of sorts of Lindas' actual tones with Olivias'....but seriously I am not hearing any of Linda's natural "overtones" nor Olivia's....I say they have at least a bit of Linda in there but prob didn't want to get into trouble...no matter what the frickin audio is computer "created"....including the breath outtakes On the have you "never been mellow" video.. Normally, it's as you said a combination of the 2 voices.. i.e. Linda's vocals but with Olivia's vocal pronunciation. ..I do have a pretty good ear for recognizing sound and pitch and I can definitely hear similarities between the "AI's" computer mesh and Linda's voice. Agree with you on Olivia.. not hearing that. Really weird and it almost sounds like isolated vocals with the music turned down low. lol.. just strange.

Well, they take notes and words that Linda has sung in the past and combine them to create the AI version. It is not seamless yet but I don't really care as a fan of all that is REAL Linda. 5555 eddiejinfl
