If I remember correctly when Mad Love started to fall on the charts it fell fast. Quick to the top five, sold a million, then fell fast after 8-10 weeks on chart. I don’t even think “I Can’t Let Go” as the third single slowed it down. Still, hardly a failure.

I never heard of that Ronin Band before with almost all of Linda's band/session members in it. I guess I'll have to check out the tube to see if anything is posted on there. Anybody heard anything from this band? eddiejinnj

Quote by MokiWI:
Considering the amount of "competition" on the charts there was in 1980, Linda's success with Mad Love was still quite absolute in my opinion, even though "I Can't Let Go" only went as high as #31 in August. By then, she was firmly ensconced in The Pirates Of Penzance, which, in its off-Broadway, on-Broadway, and film iterations, would consume most of the following two years of her life.
It does have to be said, however, that "Hurt So Bad" was the final Top 10 hit she would ever have as a solo artist. The other two after this, "Somewhere Out There" (1987) and "Don't Know Much" (1989), were both duets, with, respectively, James Ingram and Aaron Neville.

For comparison, Mad Love was in the Billboard album chart Top 20 for 15 weeks (12 weeks Top 10), Simple Dreams for 20 weeks (16 weeks Top 10).

There have been a couple of other bands with the same name since--one from Long Island and one from the UK. I wonder why that name is so popular?

Waddy's site has extensive Ronin coverage, including photos with Linda in Japan. www.waddywachtelinfo.com/Ronin.htmlI always wondered if the band name had some connection to Linda (the "Ron") but on looking up "Ronin," it means drifter, wanderer, or Samurai with no master. Pretty great name for a group of musicians who spent years recording/touring in support of other musicians.

Thanks everybody for your help. I had thought I saw Linda at the Saratoga Springs Art Center in August of '83 but it was July 17th (I looked it up). Then "What's New" came out in September, tmk. eddiejinnj

It was a great set-list!!! What "rarity" did she sing again? I know we talked about. I think it was "Bandit and a Heartbreaker" or "Falling Star".

I think it was "Bandit and a Heartbreaker" or "Falling Star". eddiejinnj That’s the one, “Bandit and a Heartbreaker”. What’s New was just a couple months away. I don’t think I even knew about What’s New coming out when I saw her on July 22, 1983 in Boston. I don’t remember her mentioning it from the stage. I think I first learned about What’s New from an ad in a magazine before the album’s release for her Cinemax album feature she did to promote it. Finding out about a new release was exciting. No spoilers or tidbit updates like we have today. Hope Tony is going to continue these through Get Closer and What’s New rise/fall. Thanks again Tony.

I never heard Linda sing "Bandit" live and I don't have the box set that includes it. Apparently, it was originally a Judee Sill song called "Jesus was Cross Maker".
