Again, re. Elvis Costello's trashing of Mad Love as a "complete waste of vinyl", especially the three songs of his that Linda had the unmitigated gall to put on there--it seems that he was a victim of what I call "Foot In Mouth" disease. His comments about Linda, to go along with the disparaging remarks he had made the previous year about Ray Charles and James Brown, showed how often during that period of 1979-1980 he opened his mouth and managed to place his foot right into it.
He finally learned, however, even if far too late in the minds of many (including, of course, many here), that discretion is the better part of valor, especially when he finally got successful enough here in America by just simply placing his musical money where his often-loose mouth used to be.
