I don’t think it has sold ten million copies, even worldwide. It has been certified double platinum (two million).

I think Canciones sold somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.7 million copies in its first year of release, which made it the most successful foreign language album by an American singer ever (and unless someone can verify how many albums Bad Bunny sold with his recent one, Canciones still holds that record [IMHO]).

Here's the information from the RIAA site: - Certified Units 2 million
- Release Date November 9, 1987
- 2x Multi-Platinum November 15, 2001
- Platinum August 27, 1991
- Gold February 17, 1988
I didn't find certifications for any album in increments of less than 1 million so if the album sold between 2-3 million, it would still show certified units of 2 million. Greatest Hits is Linda's all-time best-seller according to RIAA (7 million). Simple Dreams and What's New are 3 million.

The problem with Linda is that her certs have not been updated since 2001. I wish we could get a true worldwide verification of sales. One never knows it might very well have sold 10 million. eddiejinnj

I would have thought that an updated tally of sorts would have taken place when Linda sold the rights to her catalog …. but perhaps that was independent to RIAA certification.
10m is impressive though, if that’s the case !

I guess it could have been a term of the contract but then Linda's camp would have had to pay to have it happen unless the buyer assumed the cost. If it was done, which I am not sure, I certainly would love to see the results. eddiejinnj

Thanks for heads up, I just preordered. Never had it on vinyl before.
This will be the fourth copy I’ve bought since release.

I have a number of copies "CDMP" here and in Florida. I buy any used/new Linda cd's and records I see at shops/yard sales. I don't think I have it on vinyl, though.

It's, to say the least, speculative to think that Canciones has sold 10 million copies, because that would make it a "Diamond"-certified album. If it indeed has sold that many, it'd cause everybody's jaw to drop through the floor.
I'm not sure it's anywhere close to 10 million in terms of sales, but its status of having sold two to three million is, after thirty-six years, still what they call a B.F.D.

Would "Diamond" status be 10 mil in the US or world-wide? eddiejinnj

Arizona Daily Star article about 'Canciones' re-release The re-release is part of Ronstadt’s 2021 deal with Iconic, the artist management group formed by entertainment mogul Irving Azoff, to sell her music assets including the masters Ronstadt owns and royalties from the ones she does not, according to a report from Variety. The arrangement creates a partnership with Ronstadt and her team, including her manager John Boylan and her longtime personal assistant Janet Stark to market Ronstadt’s catalog and preserve her 50-year legacy in the digital era, Variety reported.

The last time I bought it on CD was Rhino’s remastered version released several years ago, the cover was the usual plastic jewel case which was cracked, I didn’t send it back, I replaced the jewel case myself. I never like the plastic jewel cases. Cheaply made, ALL OF THEM, scratch and crack so easily. They don’t age well. I put all my CD’s in clear plastic envelopes to keep them in their best condition possible. They work great with cardboard jewel cases which are much better IMO. The plastic jewel cases fit in the plastic envelopes too. I’ve ordered this reissue on vinyl and it will go in clear plastic cover as well. Can’t wait til release. I almost paid $150 a year ago for this album on vinyl…used! $24.00 fits my budget much better.

I have a really cool small but sturdy and new turntable (forget the company but supposedly good) in somewheredom. The record players were commissioned by some company. Anywhoha, I would love to listen to some crisp vinyl of Linda especially CDMP. eddiejinnj

Can’t wait for mine to arrive !
All the marketing spiel mentions 10m copies sold worldwide which is astounding and must make it one of Linda’s best selling recordings.

Quote by fabtastique:
As I've said before, ten million would be a stretch for that album, even on a worldwide level, unless one can verify its sales in Latin America in general, and in Mexico in particular, combined with what it sold here in America. Absent that, I would advise the marketing people behind this not go making the claims they're making..
In the end, however, one can't overstate just how huge a commercial risk Linda took just by making that album, and how much Asylum stood to either gain or lose by releasing it at all, especially in 1987-88. And whether its sales were just "merely" two to three million or (at the ultra-high end of the scale) ten million, one should credit those in Linda's Anglo fan base who were willing to go along with listening to a genre they hadn't had much if any knowledge about before (and may have been prejudiced about before as well) and in a language that they may have known how to speak only in a very rudimentary way (ironically much like Linda herself).

I probably would not have been introduced to that sort of music, here in the UK, if Linda had not made that album.
I am thankful for that and also that I have CdmP, Mas Canciones and Frenesi to enjoy so many years later!

Got mine Saturday. It’s great, good quality material used in packaging. 180 gram vinyl sounds wonderful. I bought one of these. I've not opened it yet. Probably will never listen to it. When I listen to this album, I choose the high resolution version I have stored on my server. But I will probably crack it open some time in the future just to look at the inside graphics, lyrics, etc. One of the many things on my LR bucket list is posting the full graphics of every LP. The only time I ever listen to vinyl is when I pull out some LP that I don't have on CD that was never issued on CD, and make a digital copy. I really don't understand the vinyl fervor but apparently I help support it.

Video of the un-boxing of the vinyl of "Canciones" -- That's an odd unboxing. Who opens up a new LP and plops down the stylus in the middle of the second song on Side 2?

I have received both the vinyl and CD. The cover graphics seem darker than I remember, but I never bought the original vinyl. I can see the appeal of vinyl in holding the LP, being that I am able to read the lyrics and inserts without reading glasses. The CD digipak is an improvement over the jewel case issue; and to think, I used to avoid the digipaks. I even put off buying a new Bonnie Raitt CD until I could find it in a jewel case that would fit in with the collection. Probably OCD.

I also thought that the colours seemed less vibrant and darker on the vinyl reissue than the original. The weight of the vinyl is much heavier though so it’s a much better quality sound.
Not received my CD yet but it appears to be on its way !
