I had an invite to trial Google’s AI program called Bard so I asked it to write a poem about Linda Ronstadt. Here are a couple of things it came up with.
Linda Ronstadt, a voice of gold, Sang her way into our hearts. She could sing any song and make it her own, From country to rock to mariachi.
She was a true original, A pioneer in the world of music. She broke down barriers and opened doors For other female singers to follow.
She was a force of nature, A larger-than-life personality. She was always up for a challenge, And she never backed down from a fight.
She was a true American icon, A woman who will never be forgotten. She will always be remembered for her music, And for her passion for life.
Linda Ronstadt, a voice of gold, Sang her way into our hearts. We will never forget her.
Linda Ronstadt, the Queen of Rock, Her voice is like a songbird's, So sweet and clear and pure.
She's sung in many genres, From rock to country to pop, And her voice is always beautiful.
She's a true artist, And her music will always touch our hearts.
Linda Ronstadt, the Queen of Rock, Her music will live on forever.
Her voice is like a gift from the gods, A treasure to be cherished.
She's sung so many songs that we love, And her music has brought us joy.
Thank you, Linda Ronstadt, For your beautiful music.

Confusingly it seems at various places to sound like she has died and in other places to sound like she is still singing. Queen of Rock... hmmm

Some of it is a little strange - "She never backed down from a fight" which I took be be that voiced her opinions and stood up for her principles, rather than popping on some boxing gloves !
You can interpret it in many ways though, the present tense references to her voice could of course refer to recordings and the past tense talking about her in retirement ....

I'm just not sure how much of Linda's music qualifies as Rock whereas Heart are Rock to the core. My opinion is that Ann has the greatest female voice in Rock music and would probably make a Top Five in a mixed gender chart :-)

Pat and Ann, I would say are contenders but Ann was mostly from a group and had limited solo work, tmk. Pat would definitely qualify but it doesn't seem she lasted long enough and had the concert following Linda did. Solo act, imo, Linda takes the crown. eddiejinfl

I wouldn't narrow down the category to solo singers :-) Unless it was re-named Solo Queen of Rock.

Yes... now Stevie Nicks I love within Mac and solo and probably listen to a lot more than Heart, but when I think of the term 'Rock' I think of power and it's more Ann Wilson's balliwick... Stevie can belt it out like no other but I tend to bracket her more as soft rock... Silver Springs and Storms are two of my favourite songs by anybody, but yet I'm thinking the Queen of Rock throne still belongs to Ann, for me. It's a dilemma. A fun one... ultimately it means nothing :-)

Quote by MokyWI:
Yes, that album (Sweet Western Sound) and said song will be coming out on June 2nd--admittedly still somewhat a long time to wait, but potentially well worth it.

Basically, alyn and all if she wasn't "Queen of Rock" then nobody was /is, imo. eddiejinfl Four or five years ago, on Facebook, I posted one of my favorite photos of Linda on a 70s page and referred to Linda as the undisputed Queen of Rock. And boy, did I create and step into a hornet's nest with that comment. Some said Janis Joplin was the Queen of Rock, others said Pat Benatar or Ann Wilson or Stevie Nicks or anyone else they could think of. I pointed that Janis would be a contender if she hadn't died at 27 and didn't leave that many recordings. That she was a little bit like Buddy Holly who had a small number of recordings despite being a songwriter. And that Buddy couldn't be called the King of Rock and Roll, not when he considered Elvis to be the king and saying people like him owed everything to Elvis. And with Ann and Stevie, they worked within the confines of their bands with some solo work, and in Ann's case, starting other bands with Nancy and recording albums, but it was still Heart by another name. It was difficult to think of Ann as the Queen, good singer though she is. Stevie might have a case as she had more solo albums separate from Fleetwood Mac, but when she was in Fleetwood Mac, she was usually only one of three songwriters and vocalists. So while I considered her a contender, Linda still won out. Same for Pat, Debbie (Harry), someone even suggested Patti Smith (to which I was like WTF are you talking about to the person who said she was the queen). Linda had it hands down because she got her start in the 60s, even though she was made a solo star against her will and she stayed at it until her beautiful voice gave out on her because of her illness. She did other music genres along the way and I guess that was why some sneered about Linda being the Queen of Rock. How could she be the queen when she did country, gospel, folk, Broadway, standards, Mexican marachis, pop in addition to rock? She wasn't devoted solely to rock and what rock she did wasn't the kind of rock they liked. So what? Linda didn't need to do heavy metal and some of her rock songs qualify as hard rock, though I'm sure Linda would disagree with me about that. Linda stayed at it a long time and her worldwide sales exceeded 100 million. She was the first female artist to do that. She was the only female artist close enough to be the female Elvis. Most of the music genres she covered, Elvis covered as well. Maybe not enough of the musical genres to Linda's liking. She also oozed the same kind of sexuality Elvis oozed as a male artist. That was something else the other female artists lacked. They didn't have the same image that Linda had and shared with Elvis. Counting the Stone Poneys and Linda's work as a solo artist (beginning with Stone Poneys Vol. III, Linda's first solo album), her career spanned five decades, from the 60s to the early 2000s. Others have exceeded that but Linda was the first to do it and she deserves the crown more than any other female artist. And it's not passable to other artists. (Recalling that when country singer Tammy Wynette died, country singer Lorrie Morgan claimed Tammy had passed on her crown to her because Tammy knew she was dying and wanted to pass on the crown to Lorrie so that country music would still have a queen. I thought that was laughable as Lorrie didn't have the kind of sales Wynette had and her albums were hit and miss when it came to sales.0

I can see why some people could consider Stone Poneys Vol III to be Linda's first solo album but I don't think it was marketed as such. Besides who would call a first solo album Volume III? I will continue to think of Hand Sown... Home Grown as the first solo album. Besides it's the first one that got my attention.

JANIS IS THE ONLY QUEEN OF ROCK
raw
unhinged at all times
out of sorts, out of body
out of time,,,no one came ever...close
that voice would of been fried dead by 47 of its own accord
that energy of Janis spawned all these Princesses ya'll talkin' bout......

I don’t think the title “Queen of Rock” was ever fitting for Ronstadt. Not 77-78 at the height of her pop/rock days or during the Mad Love years. I agree that belongs to Ann Wilson.
