The author clearly understands the temptations and tribulations of competitiveness in the music industry, particularly among female artists. As a women, she also appreciates Linda's canny mix of sexuality and humor, as well as her intelligence and resilience. Linda's enduring friendship with Emmylou is a testament to their mutual admiration and integrity. I love Linda's comment about "The Everly Sisters." The end product of "Trio" surpasses all the difficulties they had to overcome in the name of collaboration and quality.

I think one of the reasons why Linda's and Emmy's Mutual Admiration Society has endured for now on close to 50 years is because they really seem to operate on the same concentrated wavelength, and have so from the beginning in 1973. The industry seems to have this thing for setting women against one another, but Linda and Emmy clearly weren't having any of it. They were clearly too savvy and cagey to fall into that trap.
Whatever difficulties they and Dolly might have had seem to stem from their methodologies being quite different. Dolly, rightly or wrongly, often had (and perhaps still does even now) a lot of other things going on all at once and she just couldn't help herself, while Emmy and Linda often took a lot of time on their projects (Linda arguably too much when it came to hers). It was obviously much truer with respect to Trio II than it was with the first album, but in the end it was what it was (IMHO).
