They probably ought to do a touch more digging into this into the future, because, among anything else, I could put a good word in for "Lo Siento Mi Vida".

"Perfidia" got a good amount of radio play. I heard the English version here in NJ actually a couple times. First time, I remember it was a summer night and it just seemed the moon look more beautiful. It was also on the soundtrack of "Mambo Kings". eddiejinnj

Quote by eddiejinnj:
I liked Linda's version well enough, but I never heard it on the radio out here in L.A., largely because the album it was from, Frenesi, sold so poorly. I was already a bit more familiarized with "Perfidia" via the 1960 rock instrumental version by The Ventures.

I think it might have gotten some/any play maybe after the Mambo Kings movie. I love that whole album; meaning "Frenesi". eddiejinnj

One of her very best albums IMO. From Wikipedia -- "Mambo Kings" soundtrack album -- "The original soundtrack album was released in 1991 by Elektra Records. It features a number of original master recordings, re-recorded tracks and mambo-themed songs performed by Sandoval, Tito Puente and Celia Cruz. The soundtrack was re-released on February 1, 2000, and features a remix of the Puente song "Ran Kan Kan" performed by Olga Tañón. and an alternate version of "Beautiful Maria of My Soul" performed by Banderas and Compay Segundo. A remastered version of the soundtrack was released on June 30, 2017, by the record label Varèse Sarabande. AllMusic's Al Campbell awarded the soundtrack four stars out of five and praised it for "providing an excellent introduction to Latin music". " Some sources online give the release date of the "Mambo Kings" as 1991, other sites say 1992. As for "Frenesi," Studio album by Linda Ronstadt Released September 15, 1992 I bought both albums because I love "Perfidia" and wanted the English-language version. I realize "to each his or her own," but I would have thought more regular contributors to this Forum would be "completists." Yes, we can't buy everything. This is off-topic for a thread about the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, but it makes me wonder if Linda already had the idea or notion to record an album of Cuban Big-Band songs, OR if she had been approached to contribute songs for the "Mambo Kings" soundtrack and, perhaps on a whim, decided to do an entire album of said songs.

for what it's worth
Frenesi Review by Roch Parisien
Frenesi is Linda Ronstadt's third in a series of Spanish-language releases. This one -- inspired by her work on the soundtrack to the film Mambo Kings -- tackles Afro-Cuban pop and jazz. While some tracks, especially "Entre Abismos," swing mightily, there's little that sounds street level or rootsy about these sessions. I can't help picturing a wind-up lounge band holding court at some tourist-trap Holiday Inn in Acapulco. www.allmusic.com/album/frenesi-mw0000082224
I thought I recall her saying that she had wanted to do the salsa music before Mambo Kings came about but I could be wrong. It makes sense though that Mambo Kings was her inspiration after all she must have had some recordings made for the movie and just needed to do a few more to make an album. And a band was already in place. And then the music was recorded at her boyfriend's ranch. latinjazznet.com/reviews/music/essential-albums/linda-ronstadt-frenesi/

I think of "Frenesi" as Linda's dance album. It is a superior album. eddiejinnj

Linda had ideas of a Latin/Cuban jazz album with Nelson, but then he died. I remember her talking about it in a print interview. Not sure if it was before she recorded Frenesi or after that she spoke of this. Jazz might not have been what she said but it was cuban orchestrated music of some sort she was thinking about.

I do believe that the next project with Nelson, had he lived, was to be Latin/Cuban Jazz, Moky. eddiejinnj

I mentioned this years ago but I played a couple of tracks from Frenesí in a Latin bar one evening (when the owner was kind enough to let me takeover the music) and it got people up dancing. A few people asked me who the singer was and were surprised when I said Linda.
Frenesí is a GREAT album 😍

I am getting off-point here but I noticed going south on the Garden State Parkway and the next rest area south of my area is named for Celia Cruz. I have to check out her connection to NJ. Sinatra and Springsteen have rest areas named for them. eddiejinnj
