Do you have a song that you consider "the perfect country song?"
This one by Steve Wariner, Some Fools Never Learn, is one I consider perfect. To me, it has an O. Henry ending. There is a reaction video, but I didn't care for it because the reactioneer thought the song should have had more violence.

Tony, that's a nice song by Wariner. It does have an O. Henry ending to it.
After listening to your selection, I decided to post the song that chokes me up and brings tears to my eyes every time. When I first heard it about 20 years ago, it made me think of a friend who died in the 1990s. Right now, it reminds me of how it feels since my beloved dog died two months ago today --
"Melancholy Blue"
Artist: Trisha Yearwood
Songwriters: Tom Douglas, Harlan Howard
'cuz I ain't got no future without you

I will just say I milked this one for all it’s worth back in 2001 or whenever Inside Out came out.

So no other perfect country song? Maybe y'all ain't country fans.
Anyway, I have always liked this song even when my age was single digits, and I consider it a perfect country song.

I know.. it's been almost 2 years since I lost my girl Ruby and I still cry whenever I think about her. I've lost many pets before, and each time is very difficult, but this time, is different... She was my soul mate.. and at times I still hear her around the house, but that's another story. Good Song.

D-I-V-O-R-C-E (Bobby Braddock and Curly Putnam). Especially for the way Tammy sings “and he thinks c-u-s-t-o-d-y spells fun or play.”

Here's one for consideration--one of those famous "talking narrative" songs of the kind popularized in the late 1940's and early 1950's by Hank Williams (as Luke The Drifter) and Red Foley. It is the truck driver hit "Teddy Bear" (not to be confused with the huge 1957 Elvis classic) by Red Sovine. It got up to #1 on the C&W chart in the summer of 1976, as well as #40 on the Hot 100:
