Adding a bonus track that does not fit with rest of the album? Just because it’s the same language doesn’t make it a good fit. The classic album should stay as it is but then possibility of making more money ALWAYS wins. Then there is the thought, “what if this bonus track can expose the album to people who have not heard it before and will buy it because of the bonus track”…would that be so bad? Not at all.

“Deluxe” in my opinion would involve more than one bonus track. “Lago Azul” should have appeared as a bonus track on the 40th anniversary release of “Simple Dreams,” OR the box set.

Agree … it’s a bit of an oddity on this album and the quality of the track in relation to the rest of CdmP is poor … it’s a jarring experience

What would have been really cool is if they could include some of her live performances of CDMP. I think that they should have included "Lago Azul" with Simple Dreams Reissue but if not CDMP is also ok. It was her biggest selling Spanish album. So those who have not gotten this historic album before (or want a new copy) will also have a big hit of hers in Spanish. Not a terrible idea but I agree that maybe another bonus or two would have really been better marketing.

Lago Azul is available on hdtracks although it is not a "high definition" track: linkYou have to repurchase the entire album just to get the single track. But I think earlier today I did see the track Lago Azul available as a single download on amazon in mp3 format.

I'm sorry, but there is nothing "Deluxe" about tacking on the Spanish version of the single to the end of the cd. I think if they didn't have any more studio tracks from that period, they should have included a live concert from this era as the bonus material. Also, the live in Hollywood cd seemed like such an odd choice for a live album. Are there any plans to release a live Linda album recorded in the 1970's?

Would have been great to include these.

I have a subscription to Tidal which offers hi-res music (more so than Spotify and Apple) … they have a Dolby Atmos version of this new album which does sound much more immersive and I’m hearing bits of music I’d not heard before. It’s quite lovely

Thinking about this … surely someone (George Massenburg?) would have had to remix the CdmP album to have the Dolby Atmos version.
A few years ago when I emailed him he said the only album he’d mixed in Dolby Surround (which was the only mix available at the time) was What’s New.
I’m hoping for more … maybe CLARHLTW

If released correctly and thoughtfully, this deluxe version could be a pretty big seller, imo. eddiejinnj

George Massenburg mixed 'What's New', 'Lush Life', 'For Sentimental Reasons', 'Greatest Hits, Vol. 1' and 'Greatest Hits, Vol.2' in Surround Sound. The only one released was 'What's New'. The rest weren't released because when the 2008 Recession hit the car manufacturers scrapped plans to put Surround Sound players in cars.

He didn’t mix all those album, I asked him - he said the only one completed was What’s New

I'm just relating information from a conversation I had with George Massenburg one day at a trade show. Over the years I have met George several times at trade shows and producer forums.
Around 2006, 'What's New' Surround Sound (SS) cd had been out three years or so, IIRC. I was talking to George. I complemented him about the SS mix on 'What New'. He laughed and started talking about that some of the things he did on the original mix (1983) he wouldn't do today (2006). He went on to say he did the 3 Riddle albums, Greatest Hits Number 1 & 2. I asked if he knew when the rest would be put out. He said that he didn't know. This was a face to face conversation that I had with George.
That said, the record companies at that time (2001 to 2007) where putting out SS mixes. For example, 'Layla' - Derek and the Dominoes, 'Hotel California' - Eagles, 'At Fillmore East' - Allman Brothers Band. Surround Sound was The Next Big Thing. When the Recession hit in 2008, the car manufacturers scrapped plans to put SS audio systems in car. They had already started putting SS audio systems in a few top-of-the-line cars already, but they stopped. People now days don't listen to music in their living rooms like they use to. The cars would have been the only listening platform for Surround Sound. You can take all the above with a grain of salt.

Lago Azul I absolutely LOVE. I have always wanted to find out if the grammar for the translation is as bad as Linda thinks. Whenever she talks about it she claims it sounds like a “hermaphrodite is in a Time Machine.” I’ve had Spanish speakers listen to it and they don’t pinpoint any lapse in grammar, gender or anything else that is amiss with the translation. Anyone (Spanish speakers/writers) have any thoughts on that?

I think you can hear Linda’s lack of confidence or some uncertainty in the vocals on Lago Azul … it’s a nice track but I think as her confidence and ability in the language grew she positively shone.

I'm from Louisiana. Louisiana was actually controlled by Spain for awhile, from 1762 to 1802. The proper Spanish translation of Blue Bayou is Bayou Azul (sorry Linda). I actually learned that in Spanish class that I took in high school. The French classes got filled up first because everyone already spoke French and was an easy class because of that. The Spanish teacher was also the strictest and hardest teacher in high school. As luck would have it, she got married the summer before I had her class and her classes went from being the hardest to the easiest. She was on Cloud Nine, LOL. Bayou comes from a Choctaw Indian word buyuk. The French, Spanish and English all used the word Bayou. An lago is a lake not a bayou. A bayou is a slow moving small river. It is actually in between a creek and a river. People not from that part of the country don't have a clue what a bayou is, because it's not a creek and not a river. It's also not a swamp without banks, or a large body of water which is probably why Linda's father mistakenly used the word lago. The longest bayou (Bayou Bartholomew) is 364 miles, which empties into the Ouachita River near Monroe, Louisiana which is where Danny Ferrington is from. My Mom interviewed Danny's mom for the newspaper back in the '70s (though I can't remember what the occasion was). I think Danny was still in Nashville then. He has well known for his guitar building skills back then before his association with Linda.

Very, very interesting. I do remember looking up "lago" and I remember lake and maybe lagoon in it's meaning. I have always thought of bayous as wide rivers leading to the Gulf. eddiejinnj
