Many people will likely not remember the name but they will or may remember the face. Actor Clu Gulager (pronounced like Gallagher) died at the age of 93 from natural causes. He was a mainstay in many westerns on TV and in the movies for seven decades. He appeared in the TV series The Virginian and among his many movie roles, included The Last Picture Show,The Killers, a movie which included Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson, John Cassavetes and in his last movie role, Ronald Reagan, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, directed by Quentin Tarantino. Gulager was a favorite actor of Tarantino's. He also appeared in Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge. In reality, he was not the lightweight some might think but a serious heavyweight. No one has the kind of career he had that stretched seven decades would be considered lightweight. As with the recently deceased L.Q. Jones, he was quite the heavyweight. Rest in peace, Mr. Gulager. www.msn.com/en-us/movies/news/clu-gulager-the-virginian-and-return-of-the-living-dead-actor-dies-at-93/ar-AA10nWjg?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=8515600fe65347ec8f08b4284fd9dc68

Yes, Clu was one of those actors whose face you knew, but not necessarily the name, at least not right off the bat. I do remember having seen him as Sheriff Ryker on reruns of The Virginian.
He also played a dying pro golfer in a 1971 episode of the TV series The Psychiatrist, with Joan Darling (later a TV/film director) as his suffering wife, entitled "Par For The Course". It is a great performance, especially since it doesn't go terribly over the top in terms of the kind of melodramatic TV histrionics. It may at least in part have been because the director said to underplay the tragedy of it. The director, by the way, was a then 24 year-old "kid" from Arizona named Steven Spielberg.
