In one of the most exhausting Super Bowl games ever played, the Los Angeles Rams fought back from a 20-13 deficit in the third quarter, and scored a game-winning touchdown with 85 seconds left in regulation to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl 56, which was played at their home, Sofi Stadium, in Inglewood. Thus, L.A. adds one more professional sports title to its ledger.

Not to detract from the win, but I saw very few masks worn. I live in Los Angeles County and we are under a mask mandate. And yet, our mayor, Eric Garcetti, yet again unmasked. Ellen DeGeneres, Lebron James, Jennifer Lopez and pretty much every fan shown at the game and on the news afterward — no mask. It’s a joke.

I live here in L.A. County as well; and yes, it was a touch bothersome. But I'm not going to let it spoil the joy.

Erik, I understand. I guess it is just irksome that on our local L.A. news stations we hear news story after news story about how mask-wearing will be enforced at SoFi for the Super Bowl, and, of course, it doesn't happen. I am probably upset, too, because a friend died from COVID and I had to attend the funeral service via Zoom at Noon today, Sunday, Feb. 13.

I guess what bugged me much more than the maskless people at Sofi were the jackasses that got so out of control throughout the entire city. Granted it wasn't a repeat of 2020, when both the Dodgers and Lakers won their championship titles within fifteen days of each other, but still it was manifestly irresponsible and stupid, not to mention rather predictable.
In any case, I saw the whole thing on NBC from start to finish, even sitting through those (predictably) dreadful TV ads ($7 million for a 30-second spot, and all it is is a blatant effort to part a person from one's cash!), and my reaction at the end was sheer utter exhaustion.

Hi, Erik --
As soon as the game was over, very loud fireworks went off near where I live -- a dry brush area. My dog doesn't like the fireworks, but the people shooting them off don't care about veterans with PTSD or animals that can't deal with loud bangs.
I saw that ONE person was arrested after the melee downtown. They were jumping all over a L.A. Metro Bus and tagging it with graffiti and doing doughnuts in busy downtown streets. One arrest. A joke.

Yes, it is indeed a joke...and a sick one, of course. L.A.'s not the only city where these things happen; it just happens more often because it just happens more often.
Hopefully, there will be much more responsible order when the Rams get their victory parade on Wednesday.

Quote by eddiejinnj:
To give credit to the Bengals, they did what I would have expected from them, and that was to be extremely competitive right to the end. It made for one of the most exciting (and nerve-wracking) Super Bowl games in a long time (IMHO).
