I'll be damned if we haven't lost one of the most innovative of all visual artists in the history of cinema in Douglas Trumbull. The pioneering work he did when it came to visual effects is totally unforgettable...especially this: Even now, more than half a century after filmgoers first saw that in 1968, the Star Gate corridor in 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, which was Trumbull's biggest contribution to the film, is still astonishing in its radicalism and innovation. He'll definitely be missed in the film industry, most particularly among those artists who made visual effects their specialty.
