Linda concerts & broadcasts seem to be having a small trend on YT. Long may they last & continue to be available!

I was a bit shocked at a rather mouthy Andrew Gold's comments before 'Lose Again' and also before his song "Heartaches"- Linda ordered tequila for herself and the band early on, and by 'Lose Again' Linda was making fun comments, and Andrew Gold took it a little too far, but hopefully, it was all in good fun. Linda is more talkative than usual and of course, she sings beautifully. 1976

^ her introduction to 'someone to lay down beside me' is interesting, how karla bonoff was inspired to write the song... and she mentions that 'lose again' will be her new single- and she also mentions a bunch of things, it really is an interesting concert and she mentioned how she's glad to be at the troubadour and i've never heard her speak as much as she does in this concert, and the songs are great.
^^ i really enjoyed the 1990 concert that started this thread, a lot of songs were performed for the first, or only time, that tour. Thanks for linking it, fabastique.
* Linda concerts on youtube are an enjoyable rabbit hole to go down!
* i heard Linda's "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas'' playing in Walmart on Tuesday morning, after i'd been up half the night listening to her youtube clips and reading this forum. I have never heard any of Linda's Christmas songs playing in public before, so it was nice to hear.

She had a great relationship with the boys in the band and that comes across with this type of banter.

^Nah, not so much. his first "joke", he sounded like a cad. It was sexist beyond words. Then, he bitched she couldn't remember the lyrics to his song, which was unprofessional of him and she was, after all, the boss, and she was also doing him a favor singing backup and letting him have a solo. Just standing up for Linda. Andrew was a great talent, but I heard what I heard- a male insulting a female, like he felt he had the right to put her in her place. Not cool. I've overthought this. I respect your opinion,Pop80, thanks for the reply

In general, Linda's banter makes her concerts unique. Some of her anti-religious remarks I find annoying though.
Was Andrew Gold speaking as he did, from his booze do you suppose?

in my opinion, some of linda's concerts are a little uncomfortable because she says 'nothing'- i think it was the 1990 concert that started this thread- she said NOTHING for 6 songs, her first words to the audience are 'i'm going to do some jimmy webb songs now'- i liked how she often just sang one great song after another and didn't say much. i was used to it.
anecdotal story, i was a child in 1975. my aunt and older cousin took me to a linda concert. she was doing 2 shows that day. we arrived as her first show ended, in the parking lot i heard 'heat wave' being performed, it was so exciting, then we saw the audience leave and soon enough, the 2nd show started- they announced linda- and there was a very long wait- and she finally arrived from the back of the venue, walking down the aisle to the stage. i found it thrilling- but my aunt was irritated at the maybe 7 minute wait after the lights went down. linda opened with 'colorado', and sang one song after another. great show, it was a huge deal to the kid me. my aunt was irritated- may she rest in peace- she said after it was over: ''she really thinks she's hot shit. she can't speak to the audience, even say 'good evening, thanks for coming' stating that it was part of a performers job to be gracious and though she sang well, she treated her audiences with contempt and the long wait for her to walk down the theater (it was an awkward moment but i figured she'd just done a full concert, so what if she was a little late. ''bullshit!" my aunt's words. i thought it was a great concert, i've remembered it all of my life. it was my first of about 6 times seeing Linda. sorry for the long story. i saw her in '76, '77, and '78. i can't remember for sure if i saw the 'mad love' tour or not. i hope i did
as a young adult, i saw linda perform at 'peace sunday' in long beach ca, on the bill with lots of others, like joan baez, stevie wonder, stevie nicks, crosby stills and nash- i think it was around 1981. ed asner was there too, which i'd forgotten until i looked it up online.
ramblings, reliving the past. thank you for this forum.
sharing concert memories might make for a good thread

Maybe a little bit of that, or some "sour grapes?" Andrew Gold had a huge crush on Linda, which was not reciprocated to my knowledge.

7 minute wait is nothing, Linda needed bathroom, make-up repair & refreshment I expect. But greeting an audience is good manners.

Linda might have been gritted-up &/or tense before appearing, &/or maybe something was not to her satisfaction. But when perfectionists disagree...

Heartbreaker, i think the 2nd show in 1975, connecticut, started a good hour or even more after the first show, they had to get the first crowd out, and cars were leaving and many cars arriving, we got there way too early- so she had atleast an hour off, the lights went down, the theater announced her- it's a thing of the past- no way would a performer do 2 shows on the same day, but it was a regular thing back in the 70s. Kids would debate - the first show would maybe be better because the performer wouldn't be tired, but the first show had to end on time, so don't expect ''encores'' and the 2nd show would likely be longer with better chances for an encore, ah the 70s and the 80s
i recall her 1982ish ''get closer'' tour played at the univeral ampitheater in los angeles, and i think she was there for a solid week, or maybe even 8 sold out shows- google will tell me- but by then, it was one show a night, not two. pretty amazing she sold out that ampitheater for 8 consecutive nights or whatever it was. did anyone else gasp when 'get closer' very soon turned into the 'get close-up'' toothpaste commercial practically while the single was still on the charts, but not doing so well! i did! i gasped. ah, youth. i'm happy to be old. am so. thank you again

^ Thank you so much, heartbreaker for going to the trouble of finding 2 shows from the same night. She is so engaging, warm and funny in both of the shows. I recall her 1980s California concerts as her being a happy spirited performer. Maybe, she just doesn't care for Jones Beach, or Connecticut. I kind of relate:) Nice to hear her laughter and sense of humor shine through in these 2 shows, like when someone called out for 'Whipping Post' and the 'we're gonna beat the shit out of him after the show'' about David Lindley. She also seems to say this is the first time Waddy Wachtel has been in her band, replacing the musican 'who has the flu or a really bad case of clap'- My aunt would have loved these shows Thank you again!

Linda is amazing! This small woman with charismatic university student type chatter transforms into a wonderful full-voiced songstress full of soul, conveying deep human emotions that put most broadway acts to shame. Sure Linda herself might not see that, but to her audiences, she had natural talent and beauty.
