Monkee Pad is a series of videos on YouTube with interviews of people who were around the Monkees in the 60s. The fourth episode of this series is an interview with a woman who was known as a Monkee Girl. Her name is Barbara Hamaker and she actually worked in the office for Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider, but she had interactions with the Monkees and their various assortment of friends. Jimi Hendrix, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Buffalo Springfields and the Byrds are among some of the artists who gathered in the offices of the secretaries to hang around with the Monkees. Ms. Hamaker also went on tour with the Monkees and she recounts the insanity of the Monkees on tour.
She even mentions an artist we all know, Linda. She mentions Linda could also be found hanging around with the Monkees in 1967-68. And just like Linda, Ms. Hamaker didn't know Linda's first hit song was written by Mike Nesmith, until told of that fact by the show's host and interviewer, J.R. That's not the only surprise that comes from Ms. Hamaker as she also reveals she was from Tucson, Arizona and was in fact one of Linda's classmates from school. Unfortunately, as the Monkees are the focus of these interviews, Linda only gets a few minutes' mention from around 41:15-43:00 for anyone who wants to cut across most of the interview to hear about Linda.
This video may not load. I tried posting the other day and got a message that it was not available to be shared on other sites, which was funny as people are encouraged to share the video. If it doesn't load and you want to watch, just go to YouTube and type in Monkee Pad and Monkee Girl, and that should bring the video up. There's also a video by Chip Douglas; however, there are no mentions of Chip producing Linda's album Hand Sown, Home Grown.
