Does anyone know if the bootleg DVD's available (mostly on Amazon and Ebay) are actually worth buying? I bought Linda's Spanish DVD as it's official. I'm not a fan of bootleg DVD's but considering there wouldn't have been any made (or VHS) of Linda's concerts I'm considering buying any that are good quality.
Thanks in advance! 😊

This very familiar two-word saying comes to mind: Buyer Beware.
I am kind of dubious about anything of Linda's being sold on the Internet or elsewhere that is bootlegged. You really can't be sure of what you'll get, of how good the sound or visual quality is.
Of course, that's just my opinion; I could be wrong. And given that there's not a whole lot of Linda in concert, videos or otherwise, being sold out there legitimately, it is tempting to buy a bootleg. But myself, I don't think I would, to be honest.

I can't think of a single one that is worth buying-- and that is based on the quality of the DVD- not Linda's performance.
One that I would recommend, and it is an official release, is the Johnny Cash DVD "A Concert Behind Prison Walls." This DVD features four solo Linda Ronstadt songs- Desperado, Love Has No Pride, You're No Good, and When Will I Be Loved, if I recall correctly.
There was some indication that the HBO What's New was going to be released on official DVD, but I have heard nothing more on that in over a year.

Wouldn't a dvd of the HBO show be a good one? What about all the videos on youtube or is the quality too poor? Can't those videos be downloaded onto a dvd?

A proper video release of What's New would be great. I wrote to the company who seemingly held the rights to it but received no response. Hope it finally appears in good quality, ideally with the Desperado encore too.

Does anybody have a copy of this show on DVD? Linda Ronstadt 12/17/78The Summit, Houston, TX I've used this website a few times and they are as good as any for DVDs, they have a good Linda Selection:
'beauty' is in the eye of beholder for the picture quality, I haven't been disappointed but my standards might be lower and more realistic than others :-)
I bought the Yokohama dvd from here, and it is excellent

So you convinced me, Alyn. I decided to order all 4 titles from DVD Rock Depot. But their method of accepting payment is very archaic, and not very safe in my opinion.
I placed my order and they sent me an invoice via email.
Now I am supposed to send them an email with my credit card information. Not secure.
In the early days of the internet, when a trusted vendor wanted your credit card via email, you would send the number in two separate emails for added security, but this is 2021!

You're so right Partridge, I must admit I took a flyer with ordering and held my breath... actually with fraud the crime doesn't always take place immediately, they wait until you think it's been a safe transaction, then further down the line they strike. I guess I took the chance as that Yokohama show was just nowhere else to be found (maybe it is now, this was a couple of years ago), heart ruling head and all that. However, with my credit card which I only use for internet purchases (or always Paypal when available) I set the limit very low, by request to my bank, deliberately and pay it off every month, so if someone is going to try and clean me out they won't be able to exceed my limit. And even then if it ever happened I should be able to prove fraud.

Bootleg or not, most Linda shows are in the pre-digital era, recorded on VHS, NTSC, in 4:3 and standard definition. So smaller screen viewing will give better picture quality.
The releases which are legit I have seen are "What's New?" VHS & LD, Atlanta 1977 "Simple Dreams Tour Final" (the expensive one), "live in germany 1976" IMM9401 Immortal label, Pirates of Penzance (Australian region 4 DVD).
Most bootlegs are YT downloads & watching on YT actually helps the PQ to a degree.

Quote by heartbreaker:
Quite true. All the same, though, a lot of people want stuff like this in their hands physically. This is why I hope the 1980 Live In Hollywood concert comes out on DVD. When I saw that show air, in an abridged form, on PBS last May during the height of the lockdown, I was rather amazed at the augio and visual quality of it; it did not look like that show was forty years old. If that whole show came out on DVD, restored in such a way as to look almost brand-new, I'd probably be able to die a happy man (LOL).
