Again, one of those get-it-while-you-can YouTube postings, this one of Linda doing "Heat Wave" in the heat of San Diego's Balboa Stadium (not the Sports Arena, as is indicated), on September 27, 1975:

Erik, did the Balboa Stadium predate the Sports Arena? Thanks for posting that vid!! eddiejinnj
Just looked the Stadium up. It seems Linda played there when there was a 34,000 seat capacity (in 1961 they increased the size of the stadium to accommodate the San Diego Chargers). It was renovated due to seismic activity after she played there (Wiki said it was in the '70's) and reopened in 1978 with a 3000 seat capacity. You learn something new every day. Thanks eddiejinnj

Quote by eddiejinnj:
I believe that both the San Diego International Sports Arena and Balboa Stadium are roughly of the same age, both having built in the early 1960s. The Chargers, when they moved to San Diego in 1961, were ensconced at Balboa until what became known as Jack Murphy Stadium, then Qualcomm, opened for them in 1967. The Padres became a co-tenant at the "Murph" when they began their existence in Major League Baseball in 1969.
As a note, Linda, while still in the Stone Poneys, did perform with the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield at the Sports Arena in January 1968, making it her first "arena" show; and this was only a single year into her career.

The Stadium was enlarged in 1961 to accommodate the Chargers. It was around since the Panamanian Exposition of 1915; the Stadium and Balboa Park. Before 1961 the stadium did not have the upper level. Listened to the interview and what a trip. At the end, Linda was not sure how to take Joe but he was really kidding her. I kind of wondered how much she knew him. eddiejinnj

Not sure I've ever seen her rock "Heat Wave" harder--especially from "sometimes I stare into space"--she's nearly jumping up and down on "I can't explain it/don't understand it." Maybe the combination of it being her latest single and she wasn't tired of it yet, or the size of the crowd. I couldn't find a set list for the San Diego show but on 9/22/75, in San Jose, "Heat Wave" was her first encore, before "Heart Like a Wheel."
