It's one of those strange things that this album, arguably the most criminally ignored album of Linda's entire output, should now be doing so well. But it is also a testimonial to how people seem to be paying more attention to her in the wake of the documentary film and the Kennedy Center Honors.

All the chart toppers of the past few days GH 1&2, Just One Look on cd/vinyl are out of stock. Canciones is tops on CDs and the download MP3 GH is on top. But Rhino seemed unprepared. At least Heart ..., top classic rock, is still in stock.

The documentary and then the Kennedy Center Honors was like a ONE TWO marketing push. I hope Linda makes some money out of all this but I don't know how that works these days. Seems like a whole new music paradigm is upon us. Even Billboard is changing the way it reconciles its charts.

Great start to 2020. Now would be the perfect time to re-release all of her out of print albums on CD. Would love to get a 40th anniversary edition of Mad Love.

Now that youtube seems to figure high in Billboard's lists maybe they should rerelease some of Linda's videos or make some new ones from old footage. Lose Again figured quite prominently in the documentary. Perhaps that should be the one?

When I checked, 9 of Linda's albums were in the Amazon Top 50. It just goes to show that when people hear Linda and know what they listening to, they like it. Linda's presence would be a constant on the catalog charts if she received a fair share of airplay and was not blacklisted on some channels.
Even the cduniverse links on my website are generating sales. In the last couple of years, the earnings from those links have only generated 2 to 3 bucks per month, if that. I am saving up those bucks to donate to Grassroots Acoustica if those charity concerts start happening again.

She's doing very well on the Canadian album charts too. Greatest hits was at #3 on ITunes and about 8 others were in the top 100.

While I appreciate the spike in album sales for Linda, I especially like the fact that an un-hits album is charting. With so many of her albums out of print, people are mainly left with only hits collections to purchase.
As we all know, the hits are not even half of the story. So much good music between those hits, and on the albums that didn't have any.

11 of her albums are on the iTunes Top Pop album charts, including GH Remastered at #1, along with CLAR, HDTW, DCN, LITUSA, PID, and even the eponymous Linda Ronstadt charting at #112.
GH Remastered is also #3 on Top Album chart.
Since musicians make their money off album/singles sales and not airplay, I assume Linda is making some money this year.

Great start to 2020. Now would be the perfect time to re-release all of her out of print albums on CD. Would love to get a 40th anniversary edition of Mad Love. What I would love is for someone to find the master tapes for some of her great concerts - like the Atlanta 1977 or Germany 1976 concerts - and release them on Vinyl / Digital / CD, like they did with Live in Hollywood. I think it is obvious there is still a market out there for new stuff! I'm 38, born in the early 80s, so I missed all of her Rock stuff in the 70s but have loved her since I was a kid....

Chris, can I ask how you came upon Linda's music as a kid? eddiejinnj Sure! It's funny, most of the bands and musicians that I have loved I cannot necessarily point to one song or time when I started liking their music or how I came to find out about it - it is usually from listening to the radio or school mates, etc. When I was a kid, we still had a record player in our house and my parents had her GH Volume 1 album but we never really put it on - they ended up throwing away all of their great albums. For Linda, as a young girl in the 80s, Linda's popular music from the 70s was still on top 40 / mainstream radio, it wasn't considered "oldies" yet . So I knew her more popular songs just from the radio (like You're No Good, It's So Easy, When Will I Be Loved, etc), and I liked them but I didn't know who the singer was. When I was about 5 or 6 I went to see An American Tale with my younger sister and cousin and we all loved the song Somewhere Out There, my mom ended up buying us the soundtrack on cassette and we listened to that song over and over but at that age I never made the connection to the music I heard on the radio. Until one day I was riding in the car and I think it was When Will I Be Loved came on (which has always been one of my favorites) and my mom just said 'You know the woman who sings Somewhere Out There, that's her.' I had absolutely no idea but the connection was made there. It wasn't until I was older - high school age - when I started buying my own CDs, I bought her GH Volume 1 (I still have the CD) and of course loved it and at that point I was able to listen to other songs that weren't played on the radio much, at least on my local stations. And of course when I was in junior high, her music with Aaron Neville was really popular, I always liked those songs as well. Then it wasn't until I will even older, in my 20s, after college, that I really started listening to all of her music - the very early records before Heart Like Wheel - and I was amazed by those, how different her music was. I then started buying all of her digital rock/pop/country albums. I also then discovered her music from the 90s, which I LOVE. They never played any of those albums on the stations I was listening to in the 90s (would have been mostly 90s alternative rock stations). Over the past few years, with the renewed popularity of vinyl (much to my delight), I started going to used records stores and I have almost all of her country, pop, rock albums from the 70s on vinyl (still missing Silk Purse and Hand Sown, Home Grown). And it's only over the past few years that I have been able to listen to the Trio albums - I have never been much of a country fan but I love Dolly and Emmylou so it makes sense that I would love the Trio albums. I don't have much of an appreciation for the Pop Standards or Mariachi Albums but I can see how great they are, just not really my style. But that's it, I just liked her voice and the songs she did, my parents are fans but most people my age would not really be fans so I just listen on my own. Never got to see her in concert but it's OK, still have the albums to listen to. So that's it, it was really Somewhere Out There that really started my love of her music.

Thank you very much for your post and story, Chris. I guess what is it the Gen Xer's that had the Linda duet hit period popular then. It is really cool you like her 90's stuff. I call the Linda 90's the Grammmys decade since she won most of hers in that decade. Thanks again!!! I started buying Linda records when I saw the tv ads for GH Vol 1 in late fall of 1976. eddiejinnj

Nice to see another Generation X 80s kid here, I'm just 3 years older. Your story is similar to mine. I think Don't know much was the first song I heard because the video got a lot of airplay. I was mostly into 70s classic rock and 80s glam metal. The classic rock stations here didn't play her often enough, so I wasn't that aware of her classic era from the 70s, but I knew who she was from her appearance on The Simpsons. Just a few years ago, I saw her more rocking songs like It's so easy, Back in the USA, Get Closer, Hurt so Bad and Heat wave on the classic rock forums on Reddit and instantly fell in love. I ordered all of her greatest hits CDs and followed her on Spotify. 2019 was a great year for her and her fans.

Glad that Winter Light is doing well. It just happened that my Winter Light Cd died and I had to order another. I therefore kind of feel personally responsible for its resurgence. Seriously apparently the album is out of print so I ended up with an Amazon second order seller somewhere in the far East (Japan I think but I could be wrong). Anyway it is going to take a couple weeks to arrive.

Anyway it is going to take a couple weeks to arrive. How does a cd die? You mean the thousand cd's on my shelves collecting dust may be no good? In my experience CD's die from two primary causes: To be honest, in my case, playing in cheap equipment and mishandling. Even with redundant bit domains on the disc (oversampling) they can get too scratched to play. With respect to your stored discs my understanding is that they do have a long but finite life. This primarily applies to read/write discs which have a lifetime measured in years while factory pressed discs last decades. Of course storing in a cool dry dark location helps. It is interesting how a failing disc behaves- it kind of acts like an old L.P. it skips and repeats. It is also interesting that the first tune to fail was "Put Your Head on My Shoulder"- my least favorite cut. I really don't think your stored discs are in danger. But if longevity is important (like for centuries) I believe good old magnetic tape is best

No problem keeping them cool here in the desert lol. (with broken ac) I will put them in the sub-basement where it is a bit stuffy but cooler. That is if it isn't too late already. Thanks Moe.

Knew about the lack of AC from other posts I wasn't trying to be insensitive it just kinda turned out that way. Getting back on subject: really happy "We Ran" is getting some love. One of my favorites. I'll try to be more careful with the disc. Take good care of your collection
