Well its nearly that time of year again and we will be listening to River no doubt. This may have been discussed before and forgive me if it has. Be honest, do you prefer Lindas version or Jonis? I love them both. Lindas is a slightly softer version but i do find Jonis somewhat haunting.

Like you I like them both but in different ways. It is always difficult to prefer a version of a song that you loved first by another artist. In my case I heard Linda's version first although I had a roommate years ago that continually played the Heart version. Sarah does a great version as well. The song lends itself to a temptation for singers to get "artsy" which gets problematic for me (in liking it).

Sarah's arrangement/version seems based on Linda's imo though Linda's is more baroque which I love. eddiejinnj

Joni's version has more angst and longing than Linda's. From that standpoint, I prefer the original but it's hard not to love Linda's voice.

Ben Platt did a lovely version on The Politician

He sure did.
At first I was like, oh no, not that song again. (After Linda's Christmas album came out, it seemed everyone was covering that song and I got rather tired of it, like I did with everyone and their cousin singing Hallelujah.)
But Platt nailed that sucker to the wall.

Have to check that one out!!! I find that in places imo Joni and Sarah race some of the lyrics. I do like the one long note in Sarah's but her ending was short and not that cool sort of raspy long ending Linda has. I do admit it is difficult for me to be objective when it comes to Linda's singing. I do have to say all 3 are very professional sounding and well done. eddiejinnj

Ben Platt did a lovely version on The Politician
It might be more effective in context. Not familiar with him or the scene but it looks like a memorial service. Still nice version.

The best, huh? Only bustin' ya!!!! I have seen Heart, like I said, I think 3 times at least. One was Heart/Kansas double bill up at the Meadowlands in like '83. "Now your hot on the presses today, Little Queen." I also like the song "Treat Me Well" sung by Nancy. eddiejinnj
