This is good news indeed, to put it mild. I'm also not too terribly surprised that APOLLO 11 walked away with a satchel of awards too, because it is a masterpiece in its own right (IMHO).

That is really cool. I thought the Aretha one might take it partly because of her passing and her notoriety though there are some of the same issues for lack of better word with Linda's vid and how emotional it is especially at the end. eddiejinnj

Wow, come on people make some noise!!!! I thought there would be many comments after mine this morning. Gladly, Linda was wrong on this one (and some other things) and allowed the project thank God after much cajoling. I agree with her 100% re: that the book and movie should have been about THE music. Her courage to move to LA with a goal of being a singer and make a living at and the story that followed is more than enough for a film or volume of films. eddiejinnj

To add to this particular discussion here:
I felt it quite remarkable, not to mention heartening, that THE SOUND OF MY VOICE won in its category, given who she was going up against: Dylan; Lady Soul; David Crosby (not exactly the nicest guy of the Laurel Canyon musical pack of the late 60s); Miles Davis; and The Boss.
It is especially remarkable with respect to Springsteen, because it is the second time I can recall where Linda was up for an award going up against him. The other time was at the Grammys for 2006, when Linda and Ann Savoy (for Adieu False Heart) were up for Best Traditional Folk Recording in competition with the Boss's We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions. And in all honesty, while I thought Linda and Ann would win in the category (and I wanted them to win), when I saw Springsteen as one of the other nominees in this category, I had the uneasy feeling that he would be the one to snag it (because he was still the critics' "darling"), and he did. It's not that this is an act of revenge or anything, but THE SOUND OF MY VOICE was a tremendous effort, and something of a time travel back to a time, from the late 1960s to the end of the 1980s, when musical quality still mattered more than image, especially when it came to Linda.
Here is hoping this film gets nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Documentary, but I think it has an even better shot at the Grammys for Best Music Film.

I just talked all about that re: the Bruce man. I said he would HAVE to put out a traditional folk album (2 discs at that rt?) the same year as Linda, etc. His was a tribute album for a legendary artist on top of it. So you get the fans of both artists buy it. eddiejinnj

It is shame it didn't win "Best Biographical Documentary" but the focus of the documentary wasn't her whole life. The Living Subject category at the end of the list that pics Dr. Ruth says that all will be honored at the ceremony. Does that mean they all won the category? eddiejinnj

Quote by Latin from Manhattan:
I would say that if THE SOUND OF MY VOICE has any significant competition insofar as the Oscars are concerned, it would be from APOLLO 11. And it is kind of unique that both are the two best films I have seen all this year, and both are documentaries.

That's awesome, especially for a movie that allegedly "no one would want to see."
But if it's nominated for Best Doc Oscar (and we all know how weird they can be in their nominations), it will have to be " just happy to be nominated". Apollo 11 will walk away with it (if IT'S even nominated -- you never know).
Myself, I'd be just that happy.

I'm confused. Didn't we talk about this win before or is this another critics choice award?
