Does anyone know why Linda stopped singing "Long Long Time" in concert by the mid 70s or so? It's odd because it was her first top 40 solo hit single and popular with fans.

She didn't need to. By then she had many other hits to choose from and was probably sick of it by then. It is such a personal song that after singing it a thousand times it must be difficult to "feel" it anymore.

Didn't some of our members say they heard her revive that song during her Feels Like Home tour in the mid-90s, though?

I don't think it was included in any of the live performances found online but maybe she did a one or twofer at some time. Different Drum was another request she often got but her yell back response was "I don't know (or remember the words) to that song. I always thought that was a strange response but as I age I find it believable. It is quite wordy and her bands at the time were not rehearsed on it so they couldn't play it.

I think I remember one person posted that at one concert during that tour she sang it. Not sure why she did at just one concert. My memory not clear whether we actually established she did or someone perhaps questioning their recollection. I think as far as "LLT", IMO, it would have been great for her to include it during the later tours of half standards/half quote hits. It would have been really cool for her to duet it with Emmylou during their Western Wall tour; sung like Ann S. and her (on Adieu False Heart) did on some songs in unison. eddiejinnj

I find it peculiar too that she stopped doing it. She didn’t perform it much at all considering she thinks it’s a great song. It’s a song that is uniquely hers unlike many covers that she performed over and over for many years. I don’t get it.

I wonder if Linda thought that doing it live couldn't match the mythology of the record. See her comments in Esquire: Q: "I ask Linda if she's aware of the cult status 'Long, Long Time' has achieved as the Ultimate Sad Song." A: "A lot of people have told me that, but actors particularly, that they play that for their big crying movie scene." www.ronstadt-linda.com/artesq.htm

I am sure this is on the Forum elsewhere, but this was just posted today (8/7/22) and sometimes older links have a way of going by the wayside --

Do you know where that was filmed? It looks like a local Bandstand-type show. I can't tell if that guy in the audience with his hand on his face is bored or crying???

Pop, this was a variety series hosted by the singer/performer Bobby Darin. I'm not exactly sure where it was filmed, but if I had to guess, I'd say probably Television City in Los Angeles, which is where many variety shows were filmed/recorded ("The Carol Burnett Show," "The Judy Garland Show," etc.) Being that it was an NBC show, it also could have been taped at NBC in Burbank, which is where "Laugh-In" and "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" were taped -- The Bobby Darin Show

Bobby Darin did have an NBC TV series in 1973 ("The Bobby Darin Show") but according to bobbydarin.net, Linda appeared with him on his 1970 TV special "The Darin Invasion" (taped in Canada and sometimes listed incorrectly as "Bobby Darin Explosion"). www.bobbydarin.net/NBCshows.htmlwww.bobbydarin.net/invasion
