Thank you ausfan2. Fantastic Part 1. Linda was amazing, insightful, modest, sharp as ever even if some of the details (like Billy Steinberg's name) were lost in the mist of time--who cares? For me, a little too much interviewer--he's clearly a fan but a few times he should have shut up and let Linda fill in the details. He got a few points wrong, like the fabled Malibu living room scene where JD and Jackson taught her "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" and "Blue Bayou," not "You're No Good" Still, no complaints. Can't wait for Part 2.

To be fair to interviewer Dennis the Menace, he did do some good homework--I didn't know until this broadcast that Dee Dee Warwick recorded "You're No Good" before Betty Everett. Linda seemed surprised about that even if, I had to choose, Dee Dee's recording is closer to the spirit of Linda's than Betty's. (Dee Dee also recorded, in my opinion, the best-ever "Suspicious Minds,"--sorry Elvis.)

Ausfan, Thank You for finding and posting this!!! It was wonderful to hear Linda and, of course, she wouldn’t be Linda if she weren’t modest. Having been to three of the evenings with her since her Parkinson’s diagnosis, the two songs she learned that particular evening with Jackson Browne were “Blue Bayou” and “Poor Poor Pitiful Me,” NOT “You’re No Good.” Of course, now that “Dennis the Menace” has this on a radio/podcast interview this mistake will get repeated. Rob, I knew that DeeDee Warwick had recorded “You’re No Good.” If this guy is with Rhino (and if he was 10 in 1967 then he and I are the same age) then he should have access to an enormous music library. Also, if he had read Linda’s book, he would have known that Linda learned “Blue Bayou” and “Poor Poor Pitiful Me” on that same evening. Not as big a fan as he claims to be.

We had discussed Dee Dee Warwick being the first to do YNG. I do believe we did discuss that her version was closer to Linda's than Betty's. This all would be a good six degrees example. Linda recorded a Dee Dee song. Cissy Houston, another sister sang on HLAW. Linda included Dionne Warwick in the dedication section on "Winter Light". Also, Whitney recorded IWALY (Linda Ronstadt) upon the recommendation of Kevin Costner and him playing it for her. eddiejinfl
