Well, it would seem that the first week on Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart for Live In Hollywood, for all the talk of sales, is not an especially good one. It makes its debut at #97!: www.billboard.com/charts/billboard-200

It's disappointing that the 'Live in Hollywood' CD packaging erroneously claims that the HBO concert was filmed on April 24, 1980.
In fact, as someone posted earlier in this thread, Linda was performing in Kansas City on that date. I know because I was there!
Here is a photo and review from that Kansas City concert that someone posted on another thread: I've heard that people who were there say that the HBO concert was filmed on May 8, 1980.
If anyone here knows anyone at Rhino or in Linda's camp involved in this project, they might want to pass this along and let them know that the April 24 date is incorrect so they can perhaps correct the date on future pressings of the CD.
Thank you for the newsletter clip, cyberianhusky. Yes, you are right. It is highly likely that the show was filmed in early May, 1980, when Linda held concerts in Forum, Inglewood, California. 20 April 1980 Saint Paul Civic Centre, Saint Paul, Minnesota 21 April 1980 Five Seasons Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 23 April 1980 Civic Auditorium, Omaha, Nebraska 24 April 1980 Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Missouri 26 April 1980 Lloyd Noble Centre, Norman, Oklahoma 27 April 1980 Tarrant County Convention Center Arena, Fort Worth, Texas 28 April 1980 The Summit, Houston Texas 29 April 1980 Riverside Centroplex, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 30 April 1980 Frank Erwin Special Events Center, University of Texas, Austin, Texas 4-8 May 1980 Tee Forum, Inglewood, California

When I just looked at link (ty very much btw for posting) of different charts it actually says "Tastemakers". Whaaat? I didn't know about all these charts. They have had the internet sales chart a while and I know they are counting downloads now but some of others never heard of. I just been wishing sbe did an album and went number one first week even if it dropped down quick. Whitney got her 4th number 1 album (her last tmk) for its 1st week showing then dropped. She was tie with Linda at 3. Same thing for Carly after she was on Oprah. Oh well. I am still waiting on mine. I didn't change shipping addy to down here so it has to get forwarded down here. Eddiejinfl. PS: Also what is the difference between Top Album Sales and the Top 200.

I think top album sales just includes sales of the cd, vinyl and Itunes downloads, while the top 200 also includes streams from Spotify. The album would have debuted at number 7 on the top 200 if they had only counted the physical albums and downloads but with streaming, it debuted at number 97. I'm surprised it didn't chart in Canada, it did fairly well on Itunes for the first few days.

Streaming pays almost nothing and is easy to manipulate(it is a phoney youthful status). Overall album sales is much more important for an artist - especially a legacy Artist like Linda. Very good showing.

It just seems rules change and Linda, am sure others too, does not seem to benefit from them. Was this in effect re: streaming when Carly released that one album like 5 years ago (am guessing time frame)? To have number 7 in actual sales and just because of this streaming stuff it is 97. Seems like way too much disparity. Also, they have changed rules re: multiple album sets. If a 2 album set goes Gold, it is now given Platinum status. A friend said that happened to Reba. Linda's "Round Midnight" and "Retrospective" were both multiple album sets that went Gold but were not counted as Platinum. eddiejinfl

May 2018 Billboard dramatically changed how it measures streaming - Spotify etc. Heavily weighted to subscriptions - very few people over 50 subscribe but that is how "the youth listen"

Geez. Something as simple as that you would think they would be more careful and accurate. Thanks for the alert.

Hard to believe that HBO and Rhino couldn't figure out the correct date. Details like that are important to fans.

The album has been fluctuating between number 5 and 6 on Amazon overall chart. It is the number 1 new release (feb 1) still; number 2 is from feb 8 and 3 and 4 from today. I wonder how long they consider something a new release. 4 weeks? Just a guess. eddiejinfl

We can carp about Billboard chart positions, but what impresses me is that a 73-year old woman who hasn't had a major hit in decades and whose last album is 6 years old is having a hit record, a big enough success to land her in the upper reaches of -- and sometimes the top of -- two major music charts, iTunes and Amazon.

I know, we worry too much about stuff like this. Just speaking for myself, I think it has been so long since the media took Linda seriously in any meaningful way that I guess I want to think we all aren't alone among the music-consuming public for anything of hers.

It's a shame that it dropped off the Billboard 200 so soon, but it's still number 8 on Amazon.com, pretty good. The Billboard charts are skewed by streaming numbers, so they're not really relevant anymore.

Didn't ”Hurt So Bad” back when released make it to #7 on Billboard’s Top Hundred Singles? That's pretty damn good!

Actually, it peaked at #8 for three weeks (May 24 + 31, June 7, 1980).

Yeah, HDIMY was number 10 for 3 weeks and HSB was number 8 for 3 weeks. "Ooh Baby Baby" was a number 7 hit. You rt, Rick, the writer didn't get "Hurt So Bad" correct as far as being a hit. eddiejinfl

There are now 44 comments on the Linda "Live in Hollywood" section on The Second Disc blog. I don't remember ever seeing that many posts. theseconddisc.com/2018/12/just-one-look-linda-ronstadt-releases-first-concert-album-live-in-hollywood/ Here are the most recent -- Larry says FEBRUARY 19, 2019 AT 1:26 AM Mr. Boylan, please communicate with Ms. Ronstadt that her many fans would very much appreciate a dvd release of her What’s New concert with Nelson Riddle. It is ageless music and by no means embarrassing as Ms. Ronstadt has claimed some of the Mad Love material to be due to the passage of time. Secondly, is it at all possible that tracks featuring Ms. Ronstadt appearing on other artists lps be produced much like the Singing with Emmylou cds featuring various artists? Thanks much for all you do for us fans! ---------------------- Fletch says FEBRUARY 7, 2019 AT 1:36 AM Some good stuff here. I’d never really been a far of Ronstadt’s cover of ‘Willin’ (preferring instead the original Little Feat version) but she and the band really nail it here. I have to say that Russ Kunkel is probably one of my favorite drummers. I’m not a drummer, but I have to say I love his choice of fills, accompaniment, etc. Loved him on Jackson Browne’s Running on Empty album, too (especially on ‘The Road’).

I didn't order when it was first announced, so the signed vinyls were sold out (hopefully most here got one, and most of them didn't go to eBay resellers). I ordered the CD and unsigned vinyl (will it still be pink or red - whatever the color was of the signed copies?) the week after it was released from Amazon and I still haven't gotten them. So Rhino must have had to go to more pressings to complete the orders.

What a wonderful (and accurate) review. I saw her at Radio City Hall, twice, she was spectacular. She was at the top of her rock n' roll chops.....and then, she became even better vocally! Kev
