I was wondering which Linda Ronstadt album is most-loved in Linda's post-platinum era? Please enlighten me.
This is my third time trying to post this poll, and each time there is one album that I keep forgetting that it exists.

I selected Feels Like Home, I do think it's the best, but definitely tied with Trio II and Western Wall - Three-way tie!

I'm loving Oh no, not my baby from Winter Light, written by Carole King

I can’t commit yet. Leaning towards Feels Like Home because Winter Light has a greater number of disposable songs. Even though I listen to Winter Light more than We Ran, is it really better? I like We Ran, but it is a bit of a mishmash.

I went with We Ran, because I found it to be perhaps the most unjustly ignored of all the albums she made during the entire decade, if one thinks in terms of its sales (which were anemic, to say the least). And while there may be flaws with it, just like I feel there were with Feels Like Home, there were moments that were among the very best of her career, including the title track, plus the retro-C&W/rock of "Heartbreak Kind" and "Icy Blue Heart". The fact that she was far too ill to properly promote the album did contribute to its being a commercial bust, but, artistically, it was really among her best, in my humble opinion. She managed to get in a lot of longtime colleagues, like Waddy Wachtel and Bernie Leadon, as well as several of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers, and she came up with a winner as an artistic statement, regardless of album sales.

I'm loving Oh no, not my baby from Winter Light, written by Carole King Read more: ronstadt.proboards.com/thread/5601/best-linda-ronstadt-album-1990s?page=1#ixzz5SP3sXJTrI love it, too, especially the way Linda interprets (or I interpret Linda!) the lyric less as a passionate defense of her lover and more of a declaration of satisfied self-delusion. The way she sings the line "yesterday you gave me your ring" sounds less joyous than defiant, as if that ring somehow negates all the (reasonable) doubts about the lover expressed by everyone else in the song. You can almost predict the heartbreak down the road for her after the song ends. Linda did the same thing with Just One Look, somehow turning a song that's often interpreted as a happy tune of smitten love into something more like a stalker's anthem. "I'll get you one of these days."

Quote by Richard W:
I would have to agree, at least in the aspect that Feels Like Home had its moments, but it also had its problems too, some of them relating to Linda's conflicts with Dolly, but also relating to what I saw as an unusually bad vocal performance from Linda in "High Sierra", something that to this day is painful for me to say, but I can't deny it. Winter Light doesn't have those problems, even though it may not have been a commercial success in its time, let alone what some thought they were going to get in Linda's return to pop after a two-year excursion back into Spanish-language music.

I am putting in my vote for Western Wall year. Linda and Emmylou have been close friends for many years, and their Talent and mutual respect show here. I was also privileged to see them twice on tour. This album was a classic to me from the first listen

1990s - Her One "Failure"

In retrospect, I feel like her 1990's material is her one failure - not because the music isn't great, her voice was at its best on these albums. The richness added so much to the music and the arrangements were great "Adult Oriented Rock". It's just that, after pioneering California Country Rock, the American Songbook, and Mexican Mariachi music, it was depressing to see the new genre AOR not take off (both from Linda and others) - something for us 40-somethings that was lush and still a bit "rock-y". Perhaps the demographics and economics just weren't there, music may be a young person's game. Also, her health problems probably prevented her from touring much. What I did see of her then was a "2-fer" - the first half Nelson Riddle stuff with a small band, the second half a 70s Greatest Hits segment. So perhaps Linda didn't push the AOR stuff enough when she did tour.

One of the great tracks from the 1990s is "Cry Till My Tears Run Dry" --
and from the same album --

All of Linda's albums are quite good. Even her worst is better than most other artists best. All have their own personality and special moments. You have to kind of go with what moves you. Feels Like Home has been my favorite since it was released and I can listen to it forever without tiring. I developed a great liking for We Ran as well. It is always ready to go when I am in my kitchen. It's like cooking with honey.
Do we know what albums are out of print? Those would be the ones new listeners would be missing.

It seems like everything is out of print now. I was in Target yesterday. I know I have seen a recent CD release that had a special Target version. If this Target even sold CDs, I did not see them. The electronics section was all TVs, cell phones, and tablets. CDs are becoming impossible to find in stores. But as far as Linda Ronstadt, isn't everything available on iTunes or some other downloadable format?
It seems that CD sales are so anemic that there was no special 40th anniversary release of Living in the USA. Even though it's near the bottom in quality and listenability of Linda's albums, it is still quite good and moved a ton of copies in its day.

I notice there are no votes for Dedicated (and I doubt there will be any).
But there are no votes for Trio II yet. Does anyone prefer that to Feels Like Home, which some consider a salvage job? After all, this was the original version of Feels Like Home before it got pulled apart and restructured.

If most of her music is only available on i tunes or online I wonder what the cut is for her, the songwriter, record company, etc.? At least the songs are available forever that way and to everybody.

Hi, Tony — Not that I would have voted for “Trio II” but I noticed in the 1980s album poll someone asked where “Trio” was, and the response was that the focus was on solo recordings only. Therefore, I didn’t expect “Trio II” or “Western Wall” to be in the 1990s.

I was just wondering why there wasn't a 40th anniversary edition of Living in the USA, it went double platinum and had many classic songs. I can't believe that even Mad Love is out of print, that's insane, it was one of her more popular albums.

Therefore, I didn’t expect “Trio II” or “Western Wall” to be in the 1990s. I set up the 90s poll and I included all the albums, although I kept forgetting to include Dedicated to the One I Love. Not that it's a bad album, I just don't spend much time listening to it. I remember in the record store that year seeing a list on the chalkboard of upcoming albums- Dedicated to the One I Love, Linda Ronstadt- and I thought wow this is great Linda is going to do another album focusing on hits from the 1960s and the girl group sound. So I was very disappointed when it came out and I saw that baby on the cover. And then he showed up on the T-shirts. At least he grew up to be a lawyer fighting for great liberal causes. The 80s poll was set up by another member who was being more of a purist- duets OK, trios NOK.

Feels Like Home has 6 songs from Trio II. It has the BEST 6 in my opinion. Then add the excellent The Waiting, Walk On and Morning Blues and it is unbeatable. Teardrops Will Fall may be the weakest but it is at least on a par with those left off. Feels Like Home is a GREAT DRIVING CD. I had it in my car's cd player for at least a decade! I hope to be buried with this cd while the replay button IS permanently on.

John Mellencamp did a good version of Teardrops Will Fall a few years later. I had previously heard it by Ry Cooder but my best is Linda’s Americana version.

Just listened to them. I like them both. To my mind it elevates Linda's version. I also like Valerie Carter's vocals on After The Gold Rush which was a change from the Trio version. It provides an ethereal feeling I didn't get with Dolly's vocals however I like hers too in a different way.
It's a classic Linda album as if all of Linda's previous work has led up to this one masterpiece.

I would have voted FLH as best, & WL 2nd. Only song on FLH I don't like is "The Waiting", too belted like "When We Ran" on WR album..
For "Winter Light", its a fun album, "Anyone Who Had A Heart" is the only one I skip, not due to Linda, just the song..goes on & on -_-

I'm a bit surprised Feels Like Home won by as much as it did, just going off of what I could tell of this forum's overall thoughts on Winter Light and Feels Like Home I'd have thought Winter Light would win.

Winter Light is my pick. I am surprised Feels Like Home won. Don’t get me wrong, I like Feels Like Home but there are several albums from the 1990’s I would have picked before it.
