R.I.P.: Marvin Hamlisch

Oh, hell, here we go again. Another addition to this year's obituaries list. Now, it's Marvin Hamlisch, who helped adapt Scott Joplin piano rags for the Oscar-winning 1973 film THE STING, and also helped with the music for that same year's THE WAY WE WERE, among others. Didn't he write "nobody does it better" for Carly Simon? I liked that song a lot. Very talented fellow. RIP

Yes, he co-wrote "Nobody Does It Better" with his then-girlfriend Carole Bayer Sager for THE SPY WHO LOVED ME in 1977; and in fact, he did the score for that entire film too (John Barry, the usual composer for the 007 series, was unable to work in the UK at the time because of...how shall I put this...unresolved issues with the British equivalent of our IRS).
