APRIL 26 (THURSDAY) SCOTTSDALE PERFORMANCE CENTER 7:30 PM
APRIL 29 (SUNDAY) FOX TUCSON THEATRE 7:30 PM Tucson's favorite daughter returns: Linda Ronstadt at the Fox
Posted Jan 10, 2018, 12:01 am Julie Jennings Patterson TucsonSentinel.com
Folk-pop ingenue. Country rock pioneer. Chart-topping '70s rock and roll goddess. Retro torch singer. Mariachi bandleader. A little Gilbert and Sullivan thrown in for good measure.
A Tucson legend will be back for an appearance at the Fox Theatre in April, though she won't be bursting into song.
Linda Ronstadt's journey as a musician spanned more than four decades from her debut as a member of The Stone Poneys to her final live performance in 2011. Along the way, she earned a reputation as one of rock and pop music's most versatile female vocalists, with an unmistakable voice as strong and powerful as it was sweet and pure. Over the course of her career, she sold over 100 million records worldwide, won 11 Grammys, and landed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In addition to her own musical accomplishments, Ronstadt also played the role of cheerleader, muse and partner in musical crime to friends and colleagues in the industry, collaborating or shining a well-deserved spotlight on fellow artists including Emmylou Harris, Neil Young, Warren Zevon, Jackson Browne, Dolly Parton, the McGarrigle Sisters and Elvis Costello, not to mention her pivotal role in helping launch the Eagles.
In 2014, Ronstadt was awarded a National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama, with the White House citing her "one-of-a-kind voice and her decades of remarkable music."
She had been elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the year before, just months after she told the world that her renowned singing voice had been silenced by Parkinson's disease.
To Tucsonans, Linda Ronstadt has always been more than a musician, as the scion of one of Tucson's founding families and, during her 1970s heyday, a sort of unofficial pop music ambassador for our town.
A few years ago, Ronstadt put her Tucson home on the market to move back to California, and not long afterward the singer retired from the public eye, in the wake of her diagnosis with Parkinson's disease.
Support TucsonSentinel.com today, because a smarter Tucson is a better Tucson.
This April, Tucson's hometown heroine, now 71 years old, will return in a special screening and event at Downtown's historic Fox Theatre.
"A Conversation with Linda" will be part big-screen multi-media presentation and part intimate examination of an artist, including rare videos and photos, highlights of Ronstadt's musical output, and a candid, behind-the-scenes look at the people and events that shaped the singer's eclectic and prolific body of work. The event will conclude with a question and answer session with the singer herself, something of a rarity since Ronstadt's retirement.
"A Conversation with Linda" will take place April 29 at the Fox Tucson Theatre. Tickets go on sale Friday at the venue's box office or at www.foxtucson.com.

Well, you can't say that there aren't still people in her home state who want to see her while they still can.
Or, to quote James Donald in the 1963 WW II film classic THE GREAT ESCAPE: "Well, at least it's rather nice to know you're wanted."

I recently noticed that when both the Scottsdale and Tucson appearances were originally advertised a Meet and Greet package was available:
Did any forum members take this offer?

I was able to secure one for the Scottsdale date. That's why I'm flying across the country for this opportunity. I'm quite excited to get an actual photo with Linda, since that wasn't allowed on the book tour. The box office made it sound like just a handful of these 'meet & greets' were offered.

Wow, I wish I was going to this show. Great price for the meet and greet considering all the merchandise. If she comes east again, am going to try for that. I should have looked into it for the last show I saw in LI. You are quite lucky lindafan. Have a great safe time. Try and squeeze in telling her about the forum. I told John Boylan about it. I hope Linda or her entourage (not best word but I like it lol) have seen the forum here. eddiejinfl

I hope the Tucson event gets put on video. That homecoming will be unlike any other of her tour dates and will conjure up memories we would likely not hear elsewhere.

I would suggest that forum members be cautious of purchasing the 'meet & greet' package offered on some of these dates. It appeared that 40 or so were sold for tonight's gig in Scottsdale. Linda met with less than a dozen before she said she was too tired to continue, and left. She then walked down the line, waved at the others waiting, and retired to her dressing room. I was fortunate to be one of the few that got to meet her. She was quite pleasant and chatty, but seemed a bit confused as to what was going on. John Boylan and Janet had both left her alone with just the promoter trying to both appease her needs and run the meet & greet.
Each person was given a pre-signed paperback of her memoir. These were not "personalized", as it's obvious Linda is not able to sign anything in person. Her trembles from the Parkinson's have gotten quite pronounced. Also, the Simple Dreams CD was AWOL, likely because Linda's folks didn't bring them. The lobby staff was telling people that inquired about purchasing copies of her book that Linda's team was supposed to bring them for sale, but they did not.
I felt horrible for the promoter on this show, as he was dealing with some pretty pissed off people.

Considering Linda's condition this wasn't an ideal situation to put her in although she probably thought she was up to it. Maybe the meet and greets should be axed for now. Not sure how there could be confusion regarding the missing materials and who supplied what. Just seeing her tell her story in living color should be enough for most fans. I think these events might be helpful to her well being so I hope they continue.
