Two birthdays today
The first, of course, is for the man who should have turned 83 today, the performer who was arguably the single greatest figure of American pop music during the second half of the 20th century, Elvis Presley. Here is the King's incredible version of the Percy Mayfield R&B/blues classic "Stranger In My Hometown", recorded in early 1969 at American Studios in Memphis:
And the second is for who, in my humble opinion, is the finest female singer of any musical genre (in this case, Americana/alt-country/roots rock) to have come along in this century: Tift Merritt. She celebrates her 43rd birthday. Here is the video for "Heartache Is An Uphill Climb". a track from her 2017 album release Stitch Of The World:

Erik and I have long espoused Tift, who is woefully underappreciated. Happy birthday to the late great David Bowie also...

Quote by robertaxel re. Tift Merritt: Yes, and we have done so with what I would call a fair amount of zeal, especially seeing as how she really talked up Linda in an interview from last March: www.thebluegrasssituation.com/read/squared-roots-tift-merritt-fearlessness-linda-ronstadtWe know there will never be another Linda Ronstadt, of course; but Tift is one of those singers of our time who clearly appreciates Linda and has followed Linda's mantra of being authentic and true to yourself.
