Ran across this CD in the catalog of the library. Guest vocals include: Linda Ronstadt, David Cassidy, Karla Bonoff, Stephen Bishop, Nicolette Larson, among others. Tracks: It must be Halloween (2:58) -- The monster mash / Bobby Pickett and Leonard Capizzi (3:44) -- Spooky scary skeletons (2:10) -- Trick or treat (3:28) -- The Addams family / Vic Mizzy (1:28) -- Ghostbusters / Ray Parker Jr. (4:10) -- Gimme a smile (The pumpkin song) / G. Prestopino and Andrew Gold (4:04) -- Don't scream (It's only Halloween) (3:35) -- The creature from the tub (3:48) -- Halloween party (3:12) -- Witches, witches, witches (3:10) -- In our haunted house (6:01). Anyone familiar with this? What does Linda contribute, howls and screams? UPDATE: Found another CD for kids that listed: The monster mash (Andrew Gold & Linda Ronstadt), so Linda evidently sings. My guess would be backup vocals on the chorus, but does anyone know for sure?

According to Guest Appearances PDF file on the original host website, it was just Monster Mash. If you listen, you can definitely hear Linda on the background vocals. Isn't it amazing that she sings backup on many of the 70s standards (Eagles, Neil Young, and this was a big Halloween song at that time).

This is fast becoming the most popular Halloween song on one of the most popular albums for America's favorite holiday.
If you haven't heard the album now is the time!

Andrew Gold... you can clearly hear Linda in the background vocals. It’s that season again and wanted to bring it to the fore again.

I really think they did a great job on this. Love the ending "Go get back in your coffin" "Stop acting like an animal um or START acting like an animal". "Get in the car we'll talk about this when we get home" Hilarious!!! IMO, just as good as the original as it is very similar. Best alternative I ever heard. Thoughts? eddiejinnj

Rolling Stone article from around this time last year about how "Spooky Scary Skeletons" morphed into a TikTok sensation: (The article includes a rundown of Gold's career, mentioning his work with Linda.)

I hate to be the fly in the ointment here, but I loved Monster Mash which was a hit (in the UK) second time around, when I was at school, I bought the album, loved it, still came back to it years later and just felt the whole thing was a wonderful concept, very much 'of the time', a lot of fun and a nice alternative to the serious music I loved. I can respect the amount of fun had in re-recording it, they obviously had a whale of a time, but.... after playing once and appreciating that much about it, it has to be the original every time for me. I am a huge fan of Andrew Gold but I do struggle with his re-interpretations of songs, he obviously put so much work into re-creating songs by The Beatles, amongst others, but I just wonder if he had been as creative with his own music on the same level as the work he put into the covers, he could have impressed more people. Undoubtedly he was hugely talented. When I hear his cover versions I am impressed, but after one listen I'm left wondering what might have been... the Wax project was excellent, if only there had been a similar project to pick up after that.

I actually think Andrew's accent is more pronounced and consistent than Mr. Pickett. There is a vid of supposed original lyrics but later was redone cause of their graphic nature. I have to do more research but that supposed original version IS very graphic. It is called the "Monster F**k" and use a word that rhymes with it very often. I then listened to original and of course brought back memories but I actually like the Gold Gang's just as much. Did anyone notice the first few bars sounds like the beginning of NCIS: LA theme music? eddiejinnj
Alyn, did you get out of the ointment yet, bloke? :-)
