24 November 1966 - Minus One Coffee House, Tucson, Arizona, The Stone Poneys
This is the earliest record I have uncovered of a Stone Poneys concert. As the Stone Poneys first formed circa May 1965 and it is noted that they played in coffee houses, and small clubs and the like, there are undoubtedly many other engagements in the early days that have gone unreported.
It is interesting to note how they described themselves as 'folk singers': “It’s folk music because we’re folks and it’s our music”.

Stone Poneys were supporting act for a gospel concert by Odetta in Fillmore West, Sta Monica in 1966. We were given free tickets by one of the poneys who was my neighbour. In the intermission he introduced us to Linda Ronstadt and we sat down together so I could tell her how impressed I was. "Why are you not world famous?" She complained that it was an unpaid gig for exposure and that there were too many good singers around. I replied with an invitation to come to the Netherlands. "Come to my country and I will at least make you famous in Holland"

Welcome to the forum, Jan Blom. I got to say I am a little green, lol, that you got to sit down and talk with Linda and so early in her career. Thanks for your input. eddiejinnj
