Thanks for that. And she's right - that "intelligence and openheartedness" - the traits that enabled Linda to do what she did with such skill and feeling.

Wonderful interview--her keen observations and appreciation of Linda as an artist and role model are totally en pointe.

Yes, Tift really does know a lot about Linda and her history, particularly when it relates to how Tift herself approaches her craft. This is one more reason why I feel she is the great female vocalist of this century.
I really hope that one day she and Linda can meet and trade stories and observations.

Makes me very pleased to hear other artists speak so highly of Linda.

From Tift Merritt's Twitter: "Talking My love for Linda Ronstadt here on Women's Day."

Great interview and I agree it IS more important for Linda to be recognised and remembered now she can no longer sing.

I don't know about anyone else but after reading this I feel a kinship with Tift and now know one more thing about her that makes her a special person.

Obviously it's easy to appreciate Tift for her love and understanding of Linda's classic albums. At the same time, I would also say that it doesn't hurt to look for Tift's own albums and detect the influence of Linda's country-rock style there, as well as Tift's own originality and authenticity.
