Either, I am extremely lucky (which in lotteries, raffles, slots I am not historically) or I was confused that all the first pages of the book have a plate with a Linda signature on them. The book order I made recently including a hard cover of Linda's book. Her book came with a card on first page (where the Revolutionary guy is on top) and the card which is much thicker than book paper with Linda Ronstadt signature? Are other's books like that? eddiejinfl Now, I'm confused...I thought you got your book signed by Linda at 92Y? Did you order an additional hardcover copy? Linda personally signed my book backstage before the event. I did get an additional paperback copy (unsigned) because the other one is kept in a special place.

Well, the thread I started was moved but my responding to you, Pop, should hopefully bring my thread current. I now have 3 HC copies of Linda's book. One signed in person, one from amazon with signature plate and now one from Thriftbooks.com that has a signature plate. I ordered the 3rd one recently as I was already ordering Kinky books (not Kinky Boots, lol) and her HC was so reasonable. eddiejinfl

You can open up your own Linda bookshop with all those copies. I recall there was a lot of chatter about the book on the forum at the time it was released. These threads are not always as SIMPLE as our DREAMS--lol.

I bought the Kindle version to read, and have the audible book as well as my autographed copies. Both the latter are on-page signed..
Is it possible for a thread or post being stuck onto an older one, to automatically make the older thread current, and move it to the top?

heartbreaker — I’ve discussed your question and the owner of this Forum has told me that it is a FLAW in ProBoards that it does that. It should keep that toward the top but when this system for ProBoards was designed somehow someway it was built NOT to keep it toward the too. This is what the “search” box is for and why it behooves users not to willy-nilly post just anything. For fly-by-night “guests” I understand they don’t know better, but regular users should. Sometimes people don’t enter the proper search term or it doesn’t locate it, etc. Please don’t shit on me for not wanting the Forum to be disorganized. I’ll just quit the Forum and delete all of my posts before I leave.

Nobody's quitting the forum over my wanting to know about a page in Linda's book. All I want to know is do all of Linda's hard cover books have a signature plate? I am especially known for wanting to organize and be concise on here and while we are DISCUSSING it, I ask that people consider the space it takes when we quote or copy a previous post. Many times we have 2 huge lists of vids as somebody referred to one and all were copied. The ability to quote somebody at the beginning of a post is a cool option but sometimes too much, imo, is quoted and the results above happen (2 of the same list of photos or vids). eddiejinfl

Rick, I am confused re: who should be using the "search" box and how it applies to this situation. I wanted to ask something about Linda's book. I told you I did the search as I should in order for the forum to be organized and concise. The search came up out of chronological order so there was no reply box. With that, I made a new thread "Simple Dreams Book ?". When my thread was merged it made my thread disappear (which is the point of a merge but should make original post current). Some of my confusion is if a new person comes to the forum or a member that has not been on in say a few weeks came on they would not know to do a search of my question. You provided me a link to thread it was merged to. Since I wanted an answer to my question, I followed up but others may not have known it was ever there and how could they know I had a question out there they might be able to give feedback on. Not quite getting this. I gave suggestions on perhaps how to proceed in future. I can pass them onto the Boss if it would help. One of my points is that if my search worked correctly and maybe I did something wrong as one should be able to search for a thread then reply but I wasn't able to. eddiejinfl

Sometimes it's very useful if you're replying to just one topic or point in a long thread and you want to refer to it specifically, but in some of the longer threads (photos, for example, as Eddie said), you wind up with duplicate long messages if you quote the whole prior message. I try to keep the quoted portion short--block and copy from the long thread only what's relevant, or quote the whole prior message and edit it.

That's an excellent way of doing it, Rob. Hey Rob, while I am replying to you, can I ask if you have Linda's hard cover book and does it have an attached signature plate? eddiejinfl

This thread was the first time I heard of a bookplate. Digression: when I was 10, I asked for Lady Bird Johnson’s “White House Diary” for my birthday (I was a weird little kid). I sent the dust jacket to her c/o the publisher and asked her to autograph it but it was a glossy cover and wouldn’t have “signed well” so her secretary sent a signed bookplate with a lovely note. Bookplates can be beautiful. Lady Bird’s had a leaf design that matched the cover. Is Linda’s plate plain or does it have a design?

rick, many thanks for asking. Could whichever site official, when they join a new thread or post to an older one, make a post on that thread to bump it to the top please. I hope that's not too much to ask As far as searching, I do not find Proboards search as easy as Google. Perhaps its just me, but using Google and typing "Linda Ronstadt <topic> proboards" usually has links to a thread *heading*, and is more direct. Thread headings using words like "could've" are bad, as are unusual phrases like "orphan songs", as examples.

Sometimes, as for publications, it is good to start a new thread with a new topic heading. If a poster wishes his or her topic to be headlined, to attract attention to that particular subject, a new thread may have deliberately been created. In such cases it is galling to have such an action thwarted by the thread/post moved from "page 1" to "page 6".

The plate just has a border on it like on the ebay auction HB posted. I just thought it soooooooo weird that I would get 2 books with 2 plates on them. What are the odds? lol eddiejinfl

Can I possibly get more feedback re: people who bought Linda's book whether their book has a signature plate or not? The plate is much harder than the page and is noticeable in the book. Thanks much!! eddiejinfl

I think sometimes people / members / guests feel if they just "Reply" to a topic it won't follow after the person's statement they want to make a comment about. But then they end up just Clicking on "Quote" and there is a lot of material, from various users, quoted and it gets confusing. Last week a newbie/guest replied in a thread and hit "Quote" but what they did was enter their statement INSIDE the quote so the reply read as if there were no reply but I could see that the guest's comment was at the tail end of the quoted material. I fixed it so the person's comment could be seen properly.

That was a kind thing to do rick In this age of small screen devices, displays get squished and hard to place an onscreen location, which browser is used and font sizes can also affect ease of use. Does Proboards have an app or mobile format please?

Rob, Erik, Boss, Rick, do you have hardcover books without a signature plate in them? I don't recall my copy of book that i brought to have signed having a book plate. You just never know with subsequent printings if that became standard to put them in. Thanks to anyone who could let me know what their book looks like. eddiejinfl

Thank you, UK, I know what Linda's signature looks like. I was asking if hardcover books either from the beginning or maybe if there were subsequent printings came with a signature plate with a facsimile on it (Linda uses fine Sharpies so it could look printed). Pop answered me and she said her extra copy did not have such a plate. I guess I lucked out buying 2 copies that were signed by her plus the one she signed for me at 92Y NYC. Thanks Pop!!! eddiejinfl

I read my SD on a Kindle Paperwhite. Nice big font, gently backlit, and saves wear on my autographed copies.

I saw a fantastic Jackson Browne concert last night at the Beacon Theatre! He mentioned his trip to Mexico with Linda and her involvement with Linda and The Mockingbirds. I came across this quote from Jackson in LA Times interview regarding "Simple Dreams"(which may have been posted before), when asked if he would write a book.
"I’m not very interested in that stuff. Have you read Linda’s [Ronstadt] book? Now that’s a good book. It’s about music. Yes! People don’t want to know about Jerry Brown and Mick Jagger and all of the people Linda had relationships with. Besides, you have to be a really good writer. And I can’t even write a postcard."

I see Jackson's point but I don't agree that "People don't want to know about Jerry Brown and Mick Jagger..." I would have loved to read her thoughts on them. It would have been a very different book, maybe not strictly a "musical memoir," but she must have some great stories that we haven't heard, if the Leslie Van Houten episode is any indication.

Of course, many people would be interested in that, as long as it wasn't too gossipy. Jackson is speaking from a musician's point of view, and he is a true artist in every sense of the word.

I am glad you got to see Jackson, Pop!!! I have never had the chance to see him live. I still remember that they spelled the name of the town where the Garden State Arts Center is in wrong. It is in Holmdel not Holmdale as it says on the credits of 2 songs. I think it would be cool to hear of some of Linda's personal stories of say meeting Nelson for the first time. Maybe the recording experience with Rosemary and k.d. That kind of story. Personal but not salacious. eddiejinnj
