Very sudden way to go, and terrible. Another one leaves the scene.

Once you hit a certain age you really have to "pace" yourself. Our brains say we are one age but our bodies say another. When I was in my 30's I went to the Grand Canyon for the first (and last) time. They have easily traveled paths down into the canyon that are easy to maneuver. I must have spent an hour headed down the path and barely made a dent into the canyon. It was getting late and I did not want to be stuck there in the dark so I turned around to head back up the path. I got about 3 steps up and felt like I hit a brick wall. It was then that I understood the meaning of the words I would see on t-shirts all over Arizona State..."Go Hike The Canyon." It meant one of Erik's favorite phrases lol. "Go f**k yourself!" I couldn't believe how hard the trip up was. I mean there were women in prom dresses and heels going down that path. Can't imagine how they made it back up before dark (or maybe that was the point). I started exercising and lifting weights after that self-realization.

I was very saddened to hear this news ... I enjoyed Thicke's late night TV show a great deal - Thicke of the Night - it ran briefly in the 1983-84 TV season - his persona on that show exuded a class and style not unlike Johnny Carson's (IMO ... but of course Carson being the ultimate and consummate gentleman and purveyor of charm and charisma and wit) ... but maybe one of the reasons why I liked Thicke a lot was his connection to one of my musical heroes - Bill Champlin. Bill Champlin released a solo album in 1981 titled RUNAWAY ... and one of the singles released from that LP was a minor chart Billboard Top 100 single in 1982 called "Sara" which was co-written by Champlin and Alan Thicke
around the time of Champlin's solo release he also joined the band CHICAGO in 1981 and was a very big part of their second resurgence during the last half of the 1980's (among his contributions was singing lead vocals on the song "Look Away" which was the number one song on the 1989 year-end Billboard Hot 100 chart, and he shared lead vocals with Peter Cetera on the hit song "Hard Habit to Break" - he was the one singing the lines like "I was acting as if you were lucky to have me ... Doin' you a favor ..." and "... I'm addicted to you babe, you're a hard habit to break" ) .. but anyway, I always thought that it was "cool" that Champlin co-wrote this song with Alan Thicke, who himself was well known for co-writing theme songs for TV shows such as for the sitcoms Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life.
... and sadly Bill Champlin lost a son to cancer this past year - I imagine that it's been a very difficult and sad year for Bill - and we'll all miss the talents of Alan Thicke who was a "cool cat" in my opinion ... and for good measure this is a (very grainy) clip of a musical performance recorded from the Thicke of the Night

It has certainly been an extremely hard year for every part of the entertainment industry. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I cannot remember a year in recent times when so many of the people that we have all grown up with have passed away in such short spans of time.

it is so sad too how Linda has lost members of her own band, such as Andrew Gold and Kenny Edwards, over the years (as well as her good friend Nicolette Larson - who I admired greatly and am thankful for the Lord's gift of giving us her music during my lifetime) ... I just hope and pray for Linda's health and happiness for many more years to come - may God Bless her and us all with his beneficence
