For me, Alicia Keys is not only one of the greatest singer/songwriter/performers of all time, she is possibly the greatest role model for anybody too. This interview is so inspirational and moving, the respect and love I have for this woman continues to grow

I know Linda has spoken highly of her but I have to admit I know nothing about her and this video is the first time I have seen what she looks like. I look forward to watching it.

For me, an artist not writing their own songs doesn't matter. Linda Ronstadt and Bette Midler have wrote a few songs during their careers but they wouldn't be considered songwriters. Linda's voice is so exceptionally brilliant and colourful that even trying to describe it doesn't cover it. Unless Mariah Carey is doing a cover version she writes all her own songs (which a lot of people don't know) and Alicia Keys is the next step again, she writes her songs, sings her songs and plays her songs. That interview I posted the link to has got to be the most inspiring interview I've ever seen by anyone. I'm a 32 year old guy and although this interview is aimed at inspiring women I think she is an excellent role model for men and women. I think people would be hard pushed to find a criticism of Alicia Keys, if they did...well I don't know what kind of role model they're looking for.

I like Alicia Keys, I think she is very talented and beautiful.. this thing about no makeup is kind of silly, at least IMO and how self conscious she felt without it.. it's not like she's disfigured or anything.. If she actually needed it, she'd be wearing it.. trust me. lol....As far as role models and artists/celebrities . and I think we've had this discussion before on earlier versions of this forum.. I don't feel artists'/celebrities are responsible in being a role model.. inspire artistically yes but the way Linda Ronstadt lives her life has nothing to do with my life. I may agree with her on many things, mainly politics...and may be drawn to her but I never understood the whole "role model thing"

Their fans (who can't sing) or their fans (who can) who go on to perform. A naturally beautiful woman is kind of bragging when she says she doesn't use makeup because those less so are left feeling guilty when they do. Whatever people want to do is fine with me.

There are lots of women who are photographed without makeup and then they'll all be put together on the same page in a magazine, probably with the headlines like "Stars without their makeup!" or "What they really look like!" - some women will be "caught" without their makeup on but I can't think of any who would be a judge on a show or while promoting their album would be completely makeup free. I think this is a big deal because of just how much focus is put on women to look "perfect". The same goes for men too, it's ridiculous how many men are getting hair transplants or feeling they should or need to get one. Alicia Keys spoke of how people should be themselves, not trying to make other people happy but just making yourself happy. I've heard similar things from various celebrities over the years and they're so dramatic and you can see it's for a headline. There's a girl group here in the UK called Little Mix, I remember they covered En Vogue's 'Don't Let Go (Love)' and the praise they got was ridiculous. En Vogue are probably the greatest female group (vocally) of all time. I don't understand the success of Little Mix but they were on TV a few weeks ago promoting their book and I found they seemed to struggle to describe this book, all I remember was one of them saying it was "literally like therapy" and how people need to go out and buy it. Alicia Keys is honest, she isn't pretentious, the same way Linda Ronstadt is honest and isn't pretentious.

regarding makeup or sans the makeup. She looks fine either way.. I guess my point is, she really doesn't need it and for me, her statement does not reflect courage, at least IMO. She can do what she wants.. but to me she comes across more as bragging than bravery .. her skin is probably much healthier.. I will give her that.. yes, many women, especially entertainers livelihood depend on beautiful clothing/costumes and makeup.. even every day people in the workforce stand a better chance at landing a good job if they are well groomed/attractive.. As I said, I don't think her statement is that big a deal because to me, like Linda, she has never been pretentious or relied solely on image/drama being over the top and theatrics.. somewhat like Cher, Dolly and even your favorite Mariah.. I guess I ain't buying it. lol

Linda Ronstadt is a real anomaly for me. I am rarely impressed by celebrity but can appreciate and admire their abilities and talents but frankly most are full of themselves. Same goes for politicians who use the public trust for personal and partisan gain. Unless they are using their celebrity to do good things I rarely pay attention but I do rail against politicians quite a bit. My heroes are everyday people that few have ever heard of and none would know. Along the lines of this topic I see this person and the way she has been treated to be most inspirational and frankly sad. Sad for humanity. I wouldn't take anything away from Alicia Keys and she may stand high above others in her sphere but this story is gut wrenching to me. Lizzie should have been included in the 100 Women interview. It might do some people good and give them pause.

yes Rob.. Lizzi... I have read about her before and she is a remarkable individual.. I guess, this is what I was trying to say, those memes are beyond cruel.. and you have to wonder what the person who creates those memes look like. The fact she stood up to those people, by speaking out against it proves she is brave women. and I think most people can relate to Lizzie's situation verses a celebrity. Many young people are bullied on the internet like Lizzie.. I've seen it myself on facebook and other places where the troll uses his/her targets' photo and modifies it with a caption to humiliate the target rather than a cute endearment.. it really is sick. I've had people attack me (mostly for politics) trying to find photos (which I do not use or share) for their own benefit. then call me out. saying I must extremely ugly or hiding or whatever.. Instead arguing the point they go off topic.. why do people feel the need to hit below the belt. very mean...
