In a recent issue of Southern Living, Trisha Yearwood spoke of some of her favorite concert venues. She recalls seeing Linda Ronstadt at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. I was in attendance also at that concert, but not in the balcony with Trisha Yearwood. I think this was the first rock/pop concert held in the Fox Theatre. Smoking was not allowed, but there was a smell of marijuana in the air.

Here is the ad from The Atlanta Journal-- I did not have tickets for the early show-- I had the 10:30 tickets. Of all the Ronstadt concerts I have seen, this was my least favorite. It was allright, mind you, but Linda just didn't seem to be in the moment. Just ran through the songs... maybe she was tired for doing two concerts in a matter of four hours. Yearwood probably had the 8:00 concert and a more invigorated Linda.

I think I may be mistaken all around. Possibly the show Trisha attended was the Simple Dreams tour, but she would have only been 13 or 14. If there were shows at the Fox for Living in the USA and Mad Love tours, I was blissfully unaware. I had thought that Linda played larger venues in Atlanta in the late 1970s.

That ad is from the Get Closer tour. We all know by the dress. I saw the Radio City show with The Busboys" opening (they were very good). Late 1982. eddiejinnj

My first Ronstadt concert in 1972 was all of $2.50. Granted, she wasn't too famous then and the high price kept a lot of people away but when word got out how great her show was around campus people were KICKING THEMSELVES for missing it. The reason it was such a high price is that ALL of our concerts at the University were paid for by our student government and this particular concert was put on to raise money for a charity needs caused by a recent flood in the area. Earl Scruggs Revue was the headliner and as most here know Linda had just appeared on or was in the process of recording as a guest on Earl's latest album. We had some pretty awesome concerts with BIG names at the time. Those were the days! Being as the university was in Apalachia this is where I developed my appreciation for Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel. I must have worn the grooves out of this album after totally destroying the 8 track.

It's nice to hear of Trisha's early concert-going experience, and that it should have been in seeing her spiritual role model.
And thankfully it was at an actual concert venue, not a cavernous arena or stadium. She may not be able to avoid such places being on tour with her hubby the Garthmeister; but for her own purposes, I think she intuitively got why Linda prefers theaters and clubs to arenas.

You reckon this was the concert Trisha saw? Or was there a later one? Trisha was born in September 1964 and this concert was in December 1977 making her around 13-14 years old. I would say this is a tour for Simple Dreams as she sings the title song in the below playlist. I wonder if this was her only night there? I need to check on that: ronstadt.proboards.com/thread/3398/linda-ronstadt-concerts-performances-appearances
Looks like her only show there...December 1st, 1977.

Love Linda's Roseanne Roseannadanna hairdo. For those who don't know about this Gilda Radner character it was based on a news reporter/ABC Channel 7 news anchor in New York City that many grew up watching nightly, Rose Ann Scamordilla. Linda had recently been on Saturday Night Live with Gilda in the cast so maybe that is where she got the idea for the do.
