With so many major talents having passed away this year, I thought I'd take a moment to go the opposite way and wish a major talent a Happy 70th Birthday: Sally Field! Hard to believe, this beautiful lady, like our beloved beautiful Linda, is now 70 years old. It just doesn't seem possible that much time has passed yet Sally, like Linda, remains as beautiful as ever. So, Happy Birthday Sally, and may you remain forever young.

Yes, a truly impressive actress in every sense of the word. Her portrayal of first lady Mary Lincoln in director Steven Spielberg's 2012 epic LINCOLN was above and beyond. Along with Meryl Streep, Sally is one of the great actresses of her generation, and really of all time (IMHO).

And it's hard to believe these days that in her younger days, Sally was considered to be a very lightweight young actress. She worked long and hard to show lightweight she was not, and that is all the more reason to celebrate her. Also, I always did see a slight resemblance between Linda and Sally, almost as though they could've been sisters separated at birth. Also made me wonder if the two of them share a common ancestor neither knows about?

Also just discovered a sad factoid that connects Sally to Linda's world: today would also have been Glenn Frey's 68th birthday if he had still been with us. Sally and Glenn were both born on November 6th. So, for Glenn, wish you were here so you could've been honored in life with Sally. Funny how the degrees of separation are closer than we think.

There is a photo in The Linda Ronstadt Scrapbook by Mary Ellen Moore where Linda looks EXACTLY like Sally Field.

Is it true that Sally Field played Patty Duke on the Patty Duke Show?

yes, there are a few photos I've seen of Linda and mistaken her for Sally. I liked her in "Not without my daughter" very passionate scenes.

I remember watching Sally on tv when I was a teen and looking at photo of her and Linda and wondered if they were related. What I'm not sure of is whether the common ancestor was a recent ancestor or a distant ancestor. I kind of lean to a recent ancestor, maybe no more further back than maybe a great-great grandmother/grandfather. Whether the relation was on the father's side or the mother's side for Linda and Sally, I don't know. It would be interesting to trace back their ancestry to see if they are related, but have to wonder if it could be an expensive undertaking?

And just for all of you trivia buffs: Sally's first feature film role came in a slightly comedic Western epic that was partly filmed in the Coronado National Forest near Linda's hometown. This was THE WAY WEST, in which she played a young pioneer woman, alongside some Hollywood heavyweights (Kirk Douglas; Robert Mitchum; Richard Widmark). The film, directed by veteran Western film director Andrew McLaglen, was released in 1967.

No, it is a full face glamour photo. Or maybe I have my fan books mixed up.
