I wasn't sure whether to post this or not as we are all sensitive to this subject. As usual I stumbled upon this by accident. ABC News announced Hillary Clinton's death as well after her 9/11 near fainting episode. Social media needs a spanking but when national news gets it wrong there is no excuse.

News of singer Linda Ronstadt’s death spread quickly earlier this week causing concern among fans across the world. However the September 2016 report has now been confirmed as a complete hoax and just the latest in a string of fake celebrity death reports. Thankfully, the singer best known for hit songs like Don't Know Much, Blue Bayou or You're No Good is alive and well.

Linda Ronstadt death hoax spreads on Facebook

Rumors of the singer’s alleged demise gained traction on Wednesday after a ‘R.I.P. Linda Ronstadt’ Facebook page attracted nearly one million of ‘likes’. Those who read the ‘About’ page were given a believable account of the American singer’s passing:

“At about 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday (September 14, 2016), our beloved singer Linda Ronstadt passed away. Linda Ronstadt was born on July 15, 1946 in Tucson. She will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”

Hundreds of fans immediately started writing their messages of condolence on the Facebook page, expressing their sadness that the talented 70-year-old singer was dead. And as usual, Twittersphere was frenzied over the death hoax.

Where as some trusting fans believed the post, others were immediately skeptical of the report, perhaps learning their lesson from the huge amount of fake death reports emerging about celebrities over recent months. Some pointed out that the news had not been carried on any major American network, indicating that it was a fake report, as the death of a singer of Linda Ronstadt's stature would be major news across networks.

A recent poll conducted for the Celebrity Post shows that a large majority (65%) of respondents think those Linda Ronstadt death rumors are not funny anymore.

Linda Ronstadt Death Hoax Dismissed Since Singer Is ‘Alive And Well’

On Thursday (September 15) the singer's reps officially confirmed that Linda Ronstadt is not dead. “She joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. She's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet,” they said.

Some fans have expressed anger at the fake report saying it was reckless, distressing and hurtful to fans of the much loved singer. Others say this shows her extreme popularity across the globe.

Does that mean that 35% of people actually find that sort of thing funny? I don't mind satire. I could laugh about a year ago (or two, I don't remember) with the (obviously) fake article that Linda was going to give a performance of "gangnam style" including the dance moves, or whatever it was. It was witty and I had to laugh when I tried to picture it in my mind. But starting rumors about someone's death are not satire. The're not even close to being funny either. They are just about as unfunny and low as you can imagine. Imagine a family member or a loved one coming across something like that. It must be like a punch to the stomach - especially initially when you don't yet know that it's fake.

This phony baloney story came from a website which has a list of celebrities, all of whom have *died* today, including Linda (once again). It's a pretty bogus site for the most part because as the person didn't die, they'll be listed again tomorrow as having died yet again. And the day after that until they actually die. The same website was responsible for an internet hoax on singer Gordon Lightfoot a few years ago, which wasn't funny because of his age and because he has had health issues as well. It's easier to blow the site off than to take it seriously. I found another web site several years ago that was even harder to take: you could place a bet on a celebrity dying. That one was crass in the extreme as people were virtually betting on every celebrity dying within the time frame specified by the site. Of course, most suckers lost their money, deservedly so. I'm surprised that web site didn't take bets on when the bettors would die. Now, that would've been a fair deal! Bet on the celebrity, bet against each other on their own lives.

People will do anything for money no matter who it hurts. Like the article says, at least we know how far and wide around the world Linda is loved and revered. That should make her "feel the love" if not anything else

One thing to remember, that I just noticed from the article on the hoax, was a mention that Linda's alleged passing had not been mentioned by the news media. That kind of had me wondering about that: not that the news media wouldn't cover it, but what the chances would be if Linda passed and that news was kept out of the news media until after the funeral or memorial service had already been held. Given her very private nature, I could see her not wanting the public to know she had left this world in order to give her family time to mourn her loss and saying their goodbyes. I believe she wouldn't want thousands of people gathering to mourn her at her home in San Francisco or in Tuscon, like what happened with Elvis in Memphis and John Lennon in New York. Ironically, if news of her death was to be withheld until after her funeral or memorial, that news would put her in the same group of people whose deaths were not announced at the time they actually passed, including Jim Morrison, whom she despised. I don't much care for discussing this subject as I don't like thinking of a world without Linda. I'd rather go before she does, and be the one to greet her on the other side when it is her time to go.

No, I'd prefer my death to be one from natural means and I'm always joking I'm going to live 250 years with options for renewal. I don't think there's a chance of that happening - not in this life, maybe the next one. As for who will outlive who, that's something none of us can tell. I love Linda deeply and would wish she could live 250 years with options for renewal. But, not with having to deal with the Parkinson's and her diabetes. And possibly diabetic neuropathy. That fate - living 250 years - is too cruel to wish on any ill person, even though I keep hoping they will find a cure for all illnesses.

Heavenly TV News interrupts daily programming to announce:

Heavenly TV News anchor:
"Linda Ronstadt has just arrived in Heaven after passing on Earth and will be taken to meet with the Heavenly Father and Mother shortly, and then will meet with her family members who are here. We see St. Peter giving Linda the customary tour and explaining what Heaven is and isn't. When he is done, we hope to have a word with her...

(sees Jesus, number two man, approaching)

...just a minute, folks. Jesus is arriving on the scene. He's greeting Linda with a warm embrace and smile. He's conferring with her, probably advising her on what her role in Heaven will be. Most likely with the Heavenly Choir although our understanding is Elvis put in a request for her services with his Heavenly Rock and Roll Band. Now, Jesus is conferring with St. Peter and St. Peter is scratching at his beard. He's motioning for Linda to come over to him. We also now have a cameraman and reporter close to them where we can hear what's going on. We're going to cut to them."

Close Up:
Linda Ronstadt: "Am I in trouble?"

St. Peter (reassuring): "No, far from it...it's just that..." St. Peter looks befuddled, at a loss for words, looks at Linda with a sad smile on his face. Linda's wondering what is wrong.

Linda: "Something is wrong. What is it? Tell me!"

St. Peter: "Well, it's just that some of your fans are here and would like to meet you, and we have some others on their way up who would also like to meet you and...."

Linda: "I didn't like meeting fans when I was on Earth if I could help it. I suppose I have no choice here."

St. Peter: "Well, it is just a few and you're going to have all eternity where you can do what you like when you like, and without being bothered if you wish."

Linda: "Just a few?" (annoyed, bothered), "I don't mind, I guess."

St. Peter: "Splendid. I'll make arrangements to line them up."

Enter:
Elvis Presley: "St. Peter!" Linda turns to look around at the King of Rock and Roll, looking even more impressive and imposing than he ever did on earth. She grows weak at the knees seeing him. Presley smiles. "Tell her, gate man!" Now, St. Peter looks annoyed. Presley seems to get away with a lot because of him being a favored son of God.

TV crew cuts away.

St. Peter: (quite annoyed but his response is comedic) "I was getting around to it, Elvis."

Linda: (looking dreamily at Elvis but smart enough to inquire): "Get around to what?"

St. Peter: (now trying to extricate himself) "Well, it's just that just a few is a few thousand...or a few million!"

Linda: (realization) "Holy s---!" Elvis has placed his hand over her mouth, stopping her from saying a word she shouldn't say. She bites his hand, which he pulls back.

Elvis: "Damn!" All of a sudden, there is the sound of extremely loud thunder. Everyone covers their ears.

Linda: "What was that?"

Elvis: "God. He hates swearing with a passion. Better me than you. I'm on fairly good terms with Him. Just watch that around here."

Linda: "Elvis, I like the fact I made it to Heaven but do I have to greet so many of my fans? How much time will that take?"

Elvis: "Not as much as you think, Linda. Time doesn't really exist here. That's the beauty of eternity. I'm still meeting my fans but I don't mind. We've got some mutual fans so we could meet them together. But, the fans you want to meet the most are the members of a forum named in your honor on the internet. One fan, ronstadtfanaz, you met when you played a concert at his college or in the town where his college was located. There's also Erik and Dianna, eddiejinnj, Tony, Moe...."

Linda: "Okay, Elvis, I get it. I've got to meet them all?"

Elvis: "Yeah, like I said, time doesn't exist. You'll meet with them and it will feel like you only spent a second with them. Some of them you may want to spend a little more time knowing. But, that duty will be in a little while and I've got to get back home. John Lennon, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Glenn Frey and some others are coming over for a jam. Wanna come?"

Linda: "How do we..." Elvis takes her by the hand and whoosh, they are there in the wink of an eye. "...get there?" Linda seems dizzy and confused.

Elvis: "All you gotta do is just think of where you wanna go and you are there. Same for food or whatever else you desire. Think and it's there."

Linda looks around Elvis's truly palatial digs. She likes what she sees. She sees a tambourine, picks it up but puts it down after Elvis hands her an acoustic guitar. He's strapping on an electric double neck guitar and plugs into the amp. As the scene starts to fade out, Elvis looks at anyone who might be looking in, smiles and says:

Elvis: "Sorry, guys! I had the first dibs on meeting Linda. Don't worry, you'll get your turn!"

Fade out: Warner Bros' "Looney Tunes" theme plays, Porky Pig pops out and gives his usual "Th-th-th-th that's all folks!" and wave.

Thank you Moe and Dianna for the kind words. Glad you guys and anyone else enjoyed it. I toyed with the idea of making it a little longer because I was having too much fun writing it. I may play around with it a little later on as I had several little scenarios in mind following Elvis' Heavenly Jam. Course, I should turn this stuff into a real story and script idea for a movie and see if I could get anyone interested. I know how to write scripts and have several story ideas for movies. Mostly comedies. I just got to sit down to write them, but I'm like Eric Clapton: slow hand when it comes to typing.

If anyone on here btw actually has access to Linda and wants to pass it on to her, they can do so with my compliments. And I'd hope it would make her laugh too.
