Wonder if she will release any new music in the 10year hiatus I'd be willing to bet there will be music of some kind by Adele. I cheer and applaud Adele for her decision, but at the same time, I'm not a fan of artists taking long breaks between albums. It's like it can be a kiss of death to go that long between albums. People will move on to other artists because there's no new music to look forward to hearing from an artist they happen to like. And when ten years have gone by, there will be other, newer artists they will have to compete against, and they will most likely be yesterday's news. Elvis, and many artists in the 60s and 70s were able to build on long term careers by releasing new albums every year or every other year. And some were able to do it without sacrificing their families and family time. Personally, I think it's a mistake to go any further than every other year on new albums. Three to five years between albums is pretty risky. Adele may have some of her fan base when she returns to music but she's too good to risk not having something. Recording an album is not the same as touring, and she wouldn't be the first artist not to tour in support of an album.

YAWN. How many times do we hear artists say things like this then fail to follow through? She is closing in on the end of her first year long tour. I would bet she will release albums in the next ten years and she will perform live outside of Las Vegas. My guess is she will do a summer tour at some point. I imagine her taking off a few years then releasing another album and touring in some form.

I imagine her taking off a few years then releasing another album and touring in some form. Your reaction (YAWN) is the typical reaction I think most of us have whenever an artist says something like this, but one only has to look at other artists who went through a similar break between albums to see what effect it had on their careers. Paul Simon, Steve Miller, Michael Jackson and (I believe) Billy Joel all went through a decade long break between albums at the height of their popularity. And except for Jackson, none had success with their "first album in ten years." Jackson's would've qualified as a success had it not been for the fact he was advanced $30 million against royalties, based on the fact his previous albums had sold in the tens of millions. Of course, on him, there was mitigating circumstances - the constant child molestation charges and his strangeness, which likely cost him a large number of fans. But, there was also that long break between albums and some might have moved on to other artists. The biggest yawner for me was Garth Brooks. Every year at the height of his success, he was saying he was going to retire or threatening to retire, and I kept wondering why he didn't and why he didn't stay retired when he did? He struck me as having the biggest ego of any celebrity and one executive at his record label basically said his threat to retire was that he wanted his artist royalty hiked up considerably. And he asked for a royalty hike after his first album! Really, one can't blame him for that, given the record companies try to make the terms of their artist deals in the record company's favor and not the artist's. The executive who was complaining basically felt Garth should've waited until he was at the end of his contract to ask for a significant bump in his artist royalty. But, the threat (initially) to retire was to get more money. Is that what is going on with Adele? Or is it a case of running the clock out on her record deal with her label? One other thing about Brooks that I give him credit for getting: when he did renegotiate his contract, he required his record company to include a royalty to cover the cost of recording, manufacturing, distribution of his "records," as well as buy back of unsold copies, so that the record company could not assess him a charge back associated with those costs. Smart move. That should've been a given and not something that came back to haunt the artist.

I read recently Adele had signed a mega record deal with Sony so you can expect more albums. I saw her in Manchester back in March and it was probably the best vocal performance i have seen at a concert. Shame if she doesnt do any more live shows.

Adele will be "calling her career in" until we are told otherwise.
